  • Roar and Snore with lions, tigers and more!

    Nathalie Taylor|Updated Aug 8, 2018

First Class camping? Is that an oxymoron? Not at San Diego Zoo's Safari Park! Roar and Snore is an overnight experience that has evolved into a first class experience. I know about this evolution because, in 2004, I barely slept in a cramped, hot tent. There were no showers. It was billed as "primitive" camping. But, now it's a new world with larger tents and sparkling showers. Of the park's 46 tents, 10 are dubbed "Premium." One of Webster''s definitions for "premium" is, "of...

  • Thank You for remembering 9/11

    Updated Sep 22, 2011

Many thanks to the North County Fire Protection District and all others involved in giving our community of Fallbrook such a wonderful opportunity to come together in a special way to remember the tragic terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Unlike some people we know of, I feel proud to be an American and I am grateful to live in this great land. No, we may not be a perfect country, but we have been more generous and we have sacrificed more for others than any other country. It was wonderful to join together with friends and...

  • Thank you sweet ladies

    Updated Sep 22, 2011

A sad day came to Fallbrook with the closing of The Sweet Sicilian bakery on Main Ave. When this culinary gem arrived to town and opened their ovens, this gave a glimmer of hope for some much-needed revitalization to the heart of our hamlet. My appreciation is not only for those freshly baked goodies throughout the week, but more importantly for Grandma Dianna, daughter Lila and granddaughter Aisha and other family members with their always smiling and joyous faces greeting you as you entered the bake shop. To have three...

  • Are we fooled?

    Updated Sep 22, 2011

The simple answer to œAre we fooled? is: Yes. Many in the scientific world still may believe we are responsible for what, if anything, would cause global warming. Siding with the 9000 scientists who believe the sun, not our human actions, is the purveyor of what cools or heats this planet, places us in the majority of non-believers in Al Gore's enterprise of fooling the easily fooled public. Here in the Fallbrook area, various schools and some private buildings and homes are installing solar panels. Every single one is subsi... Full story

  • Open letter of thanks to North County Fire

    Updated Sep 22, 2011

I am one of the team managers of the Fallbrook Senior Softball League. On Monday, September 12 during an afternoon game, one of our players had a seizure/heart attack on the ball field. Two of our players who have had previous medical experience rendered aid and used the AED we have on site to keep this individual alive until the paramedics arrived. Once the paramedics arrived, they took charge and continued to render aid until the patient could be transported to the hospital. The only individual that I recognized was Tom Har...

  • Thanks, Albertsons, for staying open during the black out.

    Updated Sep 22, 2011

I'd like to express my gratitude to the managers and employees of Albertsons for staying open and helping out our town during the blackout two weeks ago. It was a tough time with almost all businesses in town closed. Your store was bombarded with a massive amount of irritated and worried people, and all I saw from your staff was courtesy and professionalism. Thank you. Forest Rhodes...

  • Politicians need to get to work

    Updated Sep 22, 2011

For some time now, especially since the recent budget ceiling debacle, I've been listening intently to the political rhetoric of both major parties. And what I am seeing and hearing concerns me greatly. My focus is not on which party or politician is pitching the right policy for this or that. Regardless of the subject, the issues are so complex that no single party or person could possibly have all the answers. The solutions to the economy, jobs, medical care, war, poverty and the like require everyone to work together as a...

Fighting a giant, being a knight, and dreaming the impossible dream were all recognizable elements of œDon Quixote sprinkled throughout the œMan of La Mancha, but it is the actors' abilities to truly capture the characters within the play that really arrest the audience. John LaLonde stars as both Miguel de Cervantes and Don Quixote in the Welk Theatre's production, which is directed and choreographed by Dan Mojica and produced by Joshua Carr. The duo decided to put a new... Full story

The much-anticipated Fallbrook varsity football home opener versus the Rancho Bernardo Broncos on Friday, September 16, was a nail-biter. After opening the season with a loss against Mount Miguel, the Warriors were coming off an early bye week to challenge the Broncos. Although Fallbrook out-gained Rancho Bernardo in total yards, several big plays helped the Broncos to their second win of the young season, 27-26. On the opening Rancho Bernardo drive, the Warrior defense...
