Mike Leake turned down an opportunity to sign with the Oakland Athletics after the 2006 draft in order to play college baseball at Arizona State University. Leake’s decision paid off when the Sundevils reached the College World Series. “It doesn’t happen to most people,” Leake said of playing in the College World Series. Leake was also part of the Sundevils team which won the PAC-10 championship in 2007. “I was fortunate enough to go through it, especially my freshman year,” Leake said. “Not many people get the chance.” Ariz...

Early last week I received a call from my friend Porry, one of the most spiritually connected people I know. She sensed God had a message for me in Psalm 37:3-4. Needless to say, I dropped what I was doing and scrambled for my Bible. It goes like this: “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Being the good neurotic I am, I have spent the time ever since memorizing the lines and applying them to my life. I had to...
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.“(Gen 1:1 ESV) The Bible begins with God’s creation of the world. But this is no longer universally accepted. Thus Christians see much that must be defended against critics. God created the world ex nihilo in six days. Because of that we are compelled to examine the meaning of our existence, life, and everything else as creatures made for God’s glory. This is important. And by all means, let us pursue it with diligence. But is this really the point of Genesis 1? For...

A Fallbrook high school homecoming tradition of 30 years is in jeopardy, says Josh Way the school’s ASB director. It’s a bittersweet dilemma. Although the Warriors football team now plays on brand new artificial turf, when the adjacent synthetic track is added after October 5, it may signal the end of the colorful floats that are part of the high school’s history. “No other school makes floats like we do,” says Josh. It’s not that other schools with synthetic tracks don’t have floats, they do–just not the size and award-winni...
