  • Two local churches defaced

    Updated Sep 29, 2006

In what the Sheriff’s Department has classified as “hate crimes,” two local churches were vandalized by individuals throwing beige-colored paint onto the main doors of their sanctuaries and the sidewalk area leading to them. St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 450 South Stage Coach Lane and Zion Lutheran Church at 1405 East Fallbrook Street were both vandalized in the same manner sometime in the late evening hours of Tuesday, September 19, or early morning hours of Wednesday, September 20. “At St. Peter’s, beige-color... Full story

FALLBROOK — We all remember the scene well: just as Dorothy, Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow are about to reach their destination of the Emerald City, the Wicked Witch of the West cackles, “A-hah! Poppies!” In the Fallbrook Players Junior Conservatory’s (FPJC) version of the beloved story, the audience members will actually become the poppy field. FPJC is teaming up with the Fallbrook VFW to generate... Full story

  • Airport site selection analysis is comprehensive

    Updated Sep 29, 2006

In his letter to the editor (8/25/06), David Meyers discusses a number of airport-related issues, including joint use of MCAS Miramar, military readiness, security and options for extending the useful life of San Diego International Airport (SDIA). The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority agrees that joint use at Miramar, with tactical jet operations as they exist today, is not the answer. However, history has shown that things can change over time for the military. In San Diego, for example, the military decided that...

  • You're welcome, Ms. Holman

    Updated Sep 29, 2006

A civil discussion of religious issues is both much needed these days and unfortunately very rare. Dialog on the differences and similarities of religions — and even differences within Christianity — are all too often just people talking past each other, not acknowledging the other person’s points, more intent on establishing their own points. You say, “By not accepting the validity of the Christian religion, wouldn’t Mr. Monday, an apparent fundamental humanist, be a religious bigot?” This is a mistaken statement from the st... Full story

  • Hospital parking is a pain

    Updated Sep 29, 2006

My mother is in her 70s and has a few remaining years left. She uses Fallbrook Hospital on a regular basis for her care. One of the many problems I have with Fallbrook Hospital is the parking problem. It seems that the employees take up as much as 90 percent of the parking spaces, which should be set aside for visitors and patients. How do I know that employees are filling the parking spaces? Because one blue Buick Regal that used to belong to Tom Metzger, who sold it off months ago, has been in the parking lot every day... Full story

  • RE: 'New airport discussed'

    Updated Sep 29, 2006

Mr. Green: Why do you say I have loyalty to Jim Russell? I don’t even know the guy. Mr. Green questions my aeronautical expertise, and it brings me to the question, “What makes Mr. Green such an aeronautical authority?” He picks apart one idea of the “logical” four I brought to the table in order to ameliorate Lindbergh Field’s problems, and then he rants and raves about needing to share MCAS Miramar before even refuting my other ideas. What’s wrong with this picture? Using larger planes and pricing slots for different times...

  • I am interested in perspective, honesty and integrity

    Updated Sep 29, 2006

I read your recent article regarding the possible conflict of interest attributed to three of the Fallbrook Union High School District school board member candidates. At my first reading, it appeared that your recent article regarding the possibility of a conflict of interest for one or more of the Fallbrook Union High School Board candidates was in the public interest but, after reading it a second time, it seems to me that the article was skewed toward influencing the public thoughts toward candidates ahead of the relevant...

  • As a nation, we should be ashamed

    Updated Sep 29, 2006

Glen Holzhausen’s letter (9/7/06) demonstrates his reliance on numbers to piece together his diatribe regarding George W. Bush and his policies. He also assumes that I am a Democrat (which I am not), whereas I am actually a registered Republican and have been for years. However, I’m a “thinking” Republican who can see that our party has been taken over by corporate interests and the bottom line. Holzhausen’s criticism of previous presidents and the casualty figures in time of war is misleading, bordering downright dishonest...
