    Updated Oct 6, 2011

In regards to the article “Water Authority says MWD members colluded to impose excess rates” published September 22 in the North County Times, Metropolitan Water District board member and previous General Manager of FPUD Keith Lewinger was involved in the rate hikes that are now being questioned for legality by the San Diego Water Authority and the consumer rights group UCAN. This rate hike involves the transportation of water and resulted in an alleged overcharge of $26.6 million. This rate hike was also shared by the cit...

  • Please be considerate when others are in need

    Updated Oct 6, 2011

On Sept. 23 around 9:30 p.m., a friend and I were driving home from the Bonsall movie theater when we saw a dead dog lying in the middle of South Mission Road near REINS. We turned around to see if it had any identification and to see if we might move it from being hit further. Others pulled over to help and we discovered another dog, also dead, across the road from the first. At one point, there were four cars and multiple people in the road with flashlights and emergency flashers. We were appalled at the many drivers who...

  • Two very special men; one amazing town

    Updated Oct 6, 2011

Monday, September 12 was just like any other day until 4:33 pm. At that moment a call went out to 911 that my husband, George, had collapsed from a heart attack while playing softball with the Fallbrook Senior Softball League at Ingold Sports Park. The quick action of fellow teammate Bob Gillis and opposing team player Marc Rudich without a doubt saved his life. They performed CPR for 13 minutes and used the AED device to literally bring him back to life. They were able to stabilize him until paramedics arrived and transporte...

  • Complainers about Reche Road repair annoying

    Updated Oct 6, 2011

I read all of the comments relating to the article on the Village News website about the repair work that had to be done to Reche Road due to the water damage. I feel so sorry for you people that cannot take a few minutes out of your life to say hello and tease the workers. Whenever I was on the road, whether traveling or stopped, I would ask the workers, “Having fun lately?” One young FPUD worker would signal “a little,” then we would both laugh. Do you realize how much work this involved? Have you noticed that the people...

  • And the winner is...

    Updated Oct 6, 2011

A couple of Sundays ago my friends invited me over to their home in Fallbrook for a baby-back rib cook off. It was a sunny afternoon gathering of good friends and great eats with the highlight to be an ‘official’ blind-taste test judging of who made the best ribs. They made sure no one knew whose ribs were whose. Categories were: appearance, tenderness and taste. To make it a level playing field, the rules stated that you had to purchase Costco ribs to start. Everyone was looking forward to the competition, because each of...

    Updated Oct 6, 2011

HEMET - A natural gas leak caused by construction activity outside Hemet High School prompted the evacuation of 2,500 students today. Crews working in the 41700 block of Stetson Avenue punctured a 2 1/2- inch line while digging in the area, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The rupture occurred around 9:20 a.m., not long after classes had begun at Hemet High. A fire captain detected a ''heavy odor of natural gas'' on arriving at the location, leading to the precautionary evacuation of students, a fire...
