    Updated Oct 18, 2019

Alisha Welch Special to Village News Before beginning to search to find a cure for an ailment, the first thing to bring to someone's awareness would be their diet. It is especially true when considering factors involved in an unhealthy digestive tract. An over consumption of refined carbohydrates and processed foods leave the digestive system in a weakened state. These foods are not only difficult to digest but they provide lifeless energy. Choosing a diet of whole foods, or... Full story

  • Broken promises

    Assemblymember Marie Waldron|Updated Oct 18, 2019

12th District The Senate Bill 1 gas tax increase promised to fix our crumbling highways and roads. That promise was short-lived. Last month, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order redirecting the state’s $5 billion annual transportation funds from highway and road repairs toward reducing congestion via “strategies designed to encourage people to shift from cars to other modes of transportation” including mass transit, walking and biking. The order also calls for $61 m... Full story

  • Recognize valid data

    Updated Oct 18, 2019

Looks like it’s time to hone our skills in recognizing “spin” in print: we have a text book example from last week regarding climate change. In no particular order, here’s what to look for: Sponsor with vested interest: “The Myth of the Climate Change 97%” was produced by the Heartland Institute. The Institute is a libertarian think-tank paid to produce “studies” that support elimination of all government regulation of business and any government expenditure supporting efforts to combat human caused climate change. It does no... Full story

  • One church thanks another

    Updated Oct 18, 2019

On behalf of our minister, the Rev. Kenneth Han, and the congregation of Grace Presbyterian Church, I would like to express our deepest thanks to the Rev. Aaron Pingel and the congregation of Zion Lutheran Church for allowing us to utilize their facilities for services each Sunday morning. For the past 19 years, our congregation met each Sunday in a school auditorium. What a joy to have our worship services in a church environment now. Not only do we have utilization of the church sanctuary, but we are able to use the newly... Full story

  • Good headlines matter

    Updated Oct 18, 2019

This letter is in regard to the Fallbrook High School sports headlines that appeared in the Oct. 3 issue of this paper after a recent girls’ tennis match and varsity football game. As a fan of youth sports and a proud grandparent of teenage athletes, I was disappointed to read “Lady Warriors Routed by Lady Sundevils” and “Warriors Still Winless after Serra Runs Wild.” The words journalists choose to inform the public have impact. The “right” words can inspire, and success should not be measured by wins and losses. Knowi... Full story

Our papers have earned 200 journalism and community awards, while working hard to be a credible forum for communication, freedom of speech and diversity of thought in the opinion section for people and groups in town. We have appreciated what everyone contributes to our community. We aren’t always going to agree with each other I believe that makes life more interesting. We learn more from each other if we have diverse views, share those views and learn from each other. I i... Full story

  • Proposition A comments

    Updated Oct 18, 2019

Chief Stephen Abbott said most of the fire stations are near the end of their 50-year useful life. How is useful life determined? Have any professional studies been done on remodeling them? He said that the distance between the living quarters and the engine garage adds to response time. We may be talking about a few seconds – I doubt that increase in response time is significant. He indicated that the stations are not seismically up to current code. I am sure they can be brought up to meet the current code. He further i... Full story

  • Re: 'Another point of view: Is global warming worth the anxiety on our young people?' (Village News, 9/26/19)

    Updated Oct 18, 2019

I cannot believe that you highlighted a piece on how climate change causes anxiety in youth. Are you kidding me? The reason they are protesting is because of the inaction of our leaders. Why are you not providing a balanced position on this important issue? I am so disappointed in this newspaper. How can you be so biased? I believe the media should be fair and balanced. Where is your information about why these students and adults, myself included, are so concerned about the environment and what we are doing to our... Full story

  • Veterans Forum to discuss 'Hidden Heroes'

    Jim Desmond, 5th District Supervisor|Updated Oct 18, 2019

A few weeks ago, I was honored to be a part of a veteran’s forum at California State University San Marcos. Throughout the night, I heard many powerful stories from different men and women who served in our military. San Diego County is home to the nation’s largest concentration of military personnel, with over one-third of county residents connected to the military. While the event at California State University San Marcos focused on veterans and reducing the suicide rate amongst our military, Oct. 22, San Diego board of... Full story

  • Proposition A has too many unanswered questions

    Updated Oct 18, 2019

Proposition A may or may not be necessary or well documented regarding site specific needs of the NCFPD. I have been responsible for facilities in a corporate capacity for over 40 years. Granted these were not fire stations, but I can tell you that you cannot run a 20-year facilities budget analysis and needs requirement without a clear reserve study and analysis similar to those required by law for all Homeowner associations. We can only hope and assume that such a study is available to justify a 20-year, $20 million levy... Full story

    Updated Oct 18, 2019

Dear Editor, While SDG&E, along with PG&E, have taken the fall for not maintaining their equipment in order to cut short on man-hours, not that they charged us any less for the profits they were pulling in, we're all too aware of Big Business racketeering. But I feel there is another guilty party hiding behind the power companies. In our case, that would be the San Diego County Water District and the Fallbrook Public Utility District for Water. The newbie homebuyers are beginning to yelp about their high water bills. This... Full story

    Updated Oct 18, 2019

Dear Editor, While I think our firefighters are a huge asset to the community, I have to wonder why NCFPD is sharing so little financial data about their requested tax? I found the half page of text NCFPD included with the sample ballot completely lacking in actual analysis. It’s as if voters were given a cover sheet to an actual analysis. District personnel haven’t met even a minimum threshold of financial disclosure. If the District is going to run its own election, with a hired third party to count votes, surely they are... Full story
