  • Camp Pendleton warns of noise starting Saturday

    CAMP PENDLETON - Camp Pendleton artillery units will conduct a week of live fire training on the North County Marine Corps installation starting Saturday, base officials announced today. The training is scheduled to take place from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday through Friday, according to Pendleton's public affairs office.   • Man Gets 25 Years Behind Bars for Killing Bicyclist

    RIVERSIDE - A man who ran over and killed a bicyclist for cutting him off in traffic was sentenced today to 25 years to life in prison. Anthony Ray Lopez of Corona was convicted Aug. 30 of first-degree murder in the Jan. 25, 2012, death of 68-year-old Armando Herman Villalobos. Riverside County Superior Court Judge W. Charles Morgan imposed the sentence required by law for the crime.   • County's Unemployment Rate Falls Nearly One Percentage Point

    RIVERSIDE - Riverside County's unemployment rate fell to 12 percent last month, with all but a few sectors expanding payrolls, state officials reported today. The county's non-seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in September, based on preliminary estimates, declined nearly one percentage point from August, when the rate was 12.7 percent, according to the California Employment Development Department.
