On a walk south on Mission Road, I arrived at Stage Coach Lane and waited for the pedestrian light to change. By the time it did, a driver passed and blocked the crosswalk. When I pointed out his error, he apologized profusely. My last reading of the rules stated that a driver is supposed to stop behind the line and then, after looking both ways, proceed on a right turn. After waiting another cycle of the lights, I crossed Stage Coach and went south on Winterhaven. The same thing happened there except it was a maintenance...
The quote: “The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our childre... Full story

Recently I was part of a group of senior residential members (all in their 80s or 90s) discussing the early events in our lives and friendships that have lasted for life. What I could not bring up was that the best friend I ever had (who used to live right here in North County) suddenly moved to Texas. What kind of trade off is that? She insisted we maintain contact and stay friends. As friends, we communicate on a near daily basis and I am learning what is happening in the U.S.A. is the fantastic growth of Texas. It isn’t j...

And teachers never stop caring, even once they retire. Outside the classroom retired teachers continue to have a pervasive influence on our community. Even during tough economic times, retired teachers are probably our most stalwart volunteers. Here in Division 81 in Fallbrook, we’ve tallied o...
