  • Man, Apparently Unarmed, Robs Temecula Bank by Passing Note to Teller

    TEMECULA - Authorities today are searching for a man who robbed a Provident Bank in Temecula by passing a note demanding cash to a teller, the sheriff's department said. Deputies responded at 9:40 a.m. Thursday to the bank in the 40000 block of Winchester Road, where the man had left on foot carrying an undisclosed amount of cash, according to sheriff's Sgt.   • Rollover Crash Kills Man in Temecula Wine Country

    TEMECULA - The driver of a white 1997 Ford Expedition died in a rollover crash this morning in a rural area in Temecula Wine Country, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 12:54 a.m. on Pauba Road north of Los Caballos Road east of the Temecula city limits, according to a CHP spokesman. The male driver lost control of the Expedition, which began to overturn and ejected him, according to CHP Officer Ron Thatcher.   • Perris man fatally shot; killer at large

    RIVERSIDE - A 40-year-old Perris man was shot to death today in Riverside, and his killer was at large. The shooting occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the 8200 block of Janis Street, a residential neighborhood near Adams Street and Magnolia Avenue. The man, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at 12:37 a.m., according to the coroner's office.     HEMET - A 44-year-old Hemet man was arrested in connection with the slaying of a 79-year-old woman in her home almost 25 years ago, the sheriff's department said today. Keith Allen Pipes was charged on Tuesday with one count of murder with a special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a robbery, according to a county district attorney's spokesman.
