  • Elect Oenning, Bain to FCPG

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

The Liberty Quarry proposal may become one of the largest quality of life issues facing the Fallbrook area. Jim Oenning, chairman of FCPG’s Liberty Quarry subcommittee, has selflessly dedicated several hundred hours to this research and evaluation. He should be applauded for this commitment and to all other FCPG concerns. Please reelect Oenning to the FCPG. Michele Bain will bring to FCPG an unbiased integrity and candor in seeking out and delivering community goals. She has earned the endorsements of both local candidates G...

  • FPUD: time for a change

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

Recently a $30 charge was added to our water bill. The operations charge increased 18 percent and the capital improvements charge went up 50 percent. The general manager makes $189,000 and the board of directors adds a bonus in addition, making it harder to have him removed from his position. One of the board members got elected because he campaigned to lower water rates. Has your water bill gone down? One of our residents, Archie McPhee, a retired civil engineer, is running for the board. We need to shake up the “good o...

  • Vote McPhee, FPUD board

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

As a former director of Fallbrook Public Utility District (FPUD), I endorse Archie McPhee for seat two on the FPUD board. Archie has always been a vocal critic of wasteful spending and excessive management compensation, in sharp contrast to the incumbent. To those who elected me to three terms on the FPUD board, I urge you to vote for Archie McPhee. Arne Gunnarsson...

  • Vote for Jackie, the 'Tree Lady'

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

We have known Jackie Heyneman since 1974 and regard her as one of Fallbrook’s leading citizens. We’re pleased that she is running for a seat on the Fallbrook Community Planning Group (FCPG). She was one of the first leaders of the Save Our Oaks neighbors who prevented the removal of the oak trees along Live Oak Park Road in 1972 and again in 1992. This group of volunteers became Save Our Forest (SOF), which is now a part of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy. Led by Jackie since its beginning, SOF has maintained the old Cape Che...

  • Say 'no' to Prop. 11

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

Don’t be fooled. Read Prop. 11 for yourself. Say no to the ACLU’s phony “reform” and stop their hidden agenda to give liberal Democrats lifetime control of Congress or, a better word, dictator type of Congress here in California and soon America. See www.peoplesadvocate.org. John Cardona...

  • Vote for Donna Gebhart

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

I would like to urge the residents of Fallbrook to vote for Donna Gebhart for the Fallbrook Community Planning Group (FCPG). Donna has been a strong voice for keeping Fallbrook’s country atmosphere. She has stepped up to the plate on many occasions to strongly insist on maintaining this community’s plan. She is an advocate who speaks her mind for our town! Donna would be a great asset to the FCPG. Sherri Lenfers...

  • Large mortgages were a gamble

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

Let’s talk about government bailout and credit for a moment. Do you believe that the US government should take over all mortgages for homeowners unable to meet their current payments? If your answer is an unequivocal yes, then you have lost me! I believe that if you are middle class, blue collar wage earner, married with two children, and you took out a mortgage on a large, five-bedroom, three-bathroom with a pool/Jacuzzi, my response to your plea for help is thanks, but no thanks! You knowingly took on more than you n...

  • Fire tax not needed

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

The recent Juliet Fire at Camp Pendleton and others that burned in our county at the same time proved our current county fire protection services are not broken but work quite well. No homes were lost, even though they were driven by our infamous Santa Ana winds. Know which counties did lose dozens of homes? The ones with the large $400 million fire departments, such as Orange and LA County. Any fire chief will tell you that what we experienced last October and in 2003 could not have been stopped with 50 or 100 extra fire...

  • Vote for Freedom

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

Since our Declaration and Constitution concern government’s relationship to the governed and state we have freedom to exercise our God-given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, it follows that we shouldn’t have to worry about the government taking our time, which is, after all, in the purest sense – our life, liberty and POH! How can government take our time? Most of our time is spent working to meet basic needs. Any resources we have leftover should be ours to give away, spend or save according to our i...

  • Heyneman for Fallbrook Community Planning Group

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

Several letters in recent editions of the Fallbrook Village news drew attention to Jackie Heyneman’s outstanding qualifications for a seat on the FCPG. In addition to her active involvement in Save Our Forest/Fallbrook Land Conservancy, Live Oak Park Coalition, Fallbrook Beautification Alliance, Keep Fallbrook Clean and Green, etc., we would like to highlight one of her “unofficial” contributions. Fallbrook Garden Club Volunteers and the Elementary School District are engaged in a project on the La Paloma campus, sponsored in...

  • Michele Bain for FCPG

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

Why Michele Bain for the FCPG? Michele is a relatively new member of the community and thus brings new ideas to help solve current and upcoming challenges. I lived in a similar-sized town in Connecticut for most of my adult life. I was active in the community and was always pleased when new residents got involved. They brought different solutions to community challenges. Michele has owned a business, has dealt with government agencies and is not afraid to disrupt the status quo if it will benefit the community. She is a good...

  • Finance is not easily understood

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

The number of people who really understand the intricacies of world financial markets are few, so there is ample opportunity for wild prognostications. Insufficient regulation has been widely proclaimed by Democrats as a cause for our “meltdown.” There may be some truth to that, particularly when applied to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which was the “trigger.” Accepting that premise, the blame has to be placed with the Democrats, who resisted efforts to restrain their excessively lax lending policies as long as five years a...

  • Fallbrook son finds time in Iraq a life-changing experience

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

The War on Terror continues and many of our country’s young men and women are working diligently to provide a part of the American presence in both Iraq and Afghanistan while establishing peace in the areas. This is no easy task. For 1st Lt. Josiah Brand, a combat engineer platoon commander who recently returned from serving seven months with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in Iraq, the experience was one of personal growth. Brand grew up in Fallbrook and graduated from Fallbrook High School in 2002. He played b...

    Updated Oct 30, 2008

FALLBROOK — The new owners of Fallbrook Pharmacy will host an open-to-the-public retirement party for former owner Tip Clements on Saturday, November 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Clements retired this year after serving the community since 1966. Not wanting to sell to a large chain pharmacy, Clements sold the pharmacy to Scott Tyree and Tom Pascoe of Pacific Pharmacy Group, a small group of four pharmacies in Southern California. While Tyree and Pascoe are new to Fallbrook Pharmacy, many familiar faces remain. Tip’s sons, Ric...
