It’s rare to find someone who hasn’t had at least one teacher who has made an impact on his or her life. We are fortunate to live in a society which produces so many men and women who are willing to spend their careers in a generally underpaid profession, constantly striving to meet often overblown expectations, all too often in working conditions that are, to put it mildly, hardy ideal. For the best teachers, the reward isn’t the salary but the gratification of opening young minds to the world around them, providing them... Full story
After reading the letters by Debby Bodkin and Joe Howard Crews opposing Proposition 75, it’s hard to believe they have read the proposition. Mr. Crews feels the loss of self-governance and the threat of fascism are possible, if not likely, outcomes if Proposition 75 passes. If he had read the proposition he would realize those are the very injustices it is crafted to eliminate. The loss of freedom he is worried about is not new; it is being perpetuated by the unions in which he places so much confidence. It is a well-known f... Full story
As a community we have heard of an event of the most grievous kind: the party on Via Monserate where minors were purportedly given access to drugs and alcohol and men were filming girls in their underwear. The man in last week’s letter to the editor who was supporting this activity has got to be kidding. Even if the kids had to “ask” for the alcohol and pot, it shouldn’t even be available to them. Is not the legal drinking age in California 21? Isn’t marijuana use also illegal in California? Where this man’s rationaliza...
I’m a 16-year-old female who happened to attend the party that “disgusts other parents” [which is understandable for them to feel]. The mother of the 14-year-old adolescent made it clearly evident that she has the mindset just like the under-aged friends of her daughter who occupied the scene. Normally, the parties I attend are hosted when the parents of an “older” teen are out of town for the weekend. But this one that happened on October 8 had 13- to 21+-year-olds lurking around, the men taking pictures and the girls dancin... Full story
I read the opinions regarding the party and all I have to say is that I have been living in this town for over 20 years and I say this is no prank! Fallbrook is known for its “small town” living; well, Fallbrook is not the village that helps raise a child. I went to the mall on Friday night and it was full of youths — doing nothing but cruisin’. Fallbrook has nothing to offer its youth and parents who don’t care because no one wants change. Fallbrook is growing faster and faster every day. We have huge lots sitting empty inst...
Your recent article and accompanying editorial raging against the supposed ‘Pimp & ’Ho’ party that you say occurred was one of the weakest pieces of journalism that I have ever read. Your paper is now the Fallbrook Village Enquirer. Perhaps a white cover is in order. Give us some facts, please, and let us make up our own minds about what happened or should have happened or whatever. You didn’t include any names, addresses, police reports, photos, interviews or anything. There was just hearsay. Apparently, no one from your pu... Full story

I think there are two large questions that loom in the minds of some parents: “Why would the parents of children attending the party allow their children to go to the party?” and “Why didn’t the children who attended the party, after finding out what was really going on, call their parents to be picked up?” Perhaps the “real” answer is too scary and threatening to embrace? If parents do not parent: spend sufficient time to stay intimately involved in the lives of teenagers or allow teenagers to “self-direct...
I am appalled and shocked after reading this news story. If the details, as related in print are true, what excuse or explanation can the hosting adults offer for allowing and/or encouraging such conduct in their home? Recent statistics have disclosed the alarming increase of sexually transmitted diseases among our teenagers and parties, such as this, place our children in serious peril. The party’s theme as well as the availability of alcohol and marijuana to under-aged children is disturbing enough, but the mention of (...
Those parents provided in one party everything GOOD parents try to shield their kids from! First of all there was drinking, then drugs (pot smoking) then pedophiles (men taking pictures)!! Investigating? I’d already have them in jail!! They don’t deserve to have children!...
Is anyone paying attention? This society is going to hell in a handbasket. There is plenty to do in Fallbrook besides drink, do drugs and have sex. There are seven-plus schools with baseball fields, football fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, etc. There is a community center, a Boys & Girls Club. There are plenty of sports to play, whether they are organized or just the neighborhood kids playing. They still sell bikes and skateboards. When I was a kid they didn’t have a skateboard park either, but we rode them a...
It would seem this gentleman would have the decency to explain why he was part of a criminal act and observed kids making poor choices. He should be held liable for being there and doing nothing about underage drinking and sexual activity....
After teachers retire they do not stop working. Most retired teachers are found volunteering in the community. During the 2003-2004 year, 66 members of the Fallbrook California Retired Teachers Division 81 volunteered 28,044 hours in the Fallbrook area. Retired teachers throughout California volunteered 2.3 million hours. That saves a total of $38 million for citizens who take advantage of the services. They hope this inspires readers to contact former teachers who had major impacts on their lives and thank them for their...
