CAMP PENDLETON - Military firefighters are on the scene of a brush fire that started yesterday, Fri., Nov. 6, on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. The blaze broke out in the Whisky Impact Area in the northern portion of the sprawling military installation. Fire crews received air support today from HMLA-169, a Marine helicopter squadron, but are only monitoring the fire, Sgt. Kevin Maynard said. SAN DIEGO - A decision to ferry injured survivors of a Nepalese earthquake over an unfamiliar route through the Himalayan mountains resulted in the crash of a Camp Pendleton-based helicopter and the deaths of the 13 people aboard, including six Marines, a military report announced today.
