I am a senior at Fallbrook High school and Mr. Oder is my government teacher. Just listening to him speak is amazing; he is passionate and intelligent. He is one of the finest teachers that I have had. His attitude toward his students is not “heck with the students” but rather a mutual respect. I admire his passion for teaching. How many people do you know who can speak with such devotion and fervor for the students and our teachers? Rachel Polley...

  • Globalization and global population

    Updated Nov 10, 2006

(Continued from last week’s issue of the Village News) The human population of the planet is estimated to now have passed six billion people. But are large numbers themselves a problem? Europe for example has higher population densities than Asia. There are more than two sides to the debate on whether population numbers equate to over-population or not. The food scarcity part of the argument in the population debate is an interesting one — people are hungry not because the population is growing so fast that food becoming sca... Full story

  • USA destruction underway

    Updated Nov 10, 2006

Relatively few Americans are aware that the destruction of the United States is well underway. How can this be? It is because the federal government wants to entangle us in a North American Cooperative Security Act with Canada and Mexico. This Act will be used as a stepping stone to build a North American Union (NAU) similar to the European Union (EU). Our borders with Canada and Mexico will be erased, and we will be subjected to rulings from an unelected NAU governing body. We will lose our sovereignty and our...

  • Mountain lion sighting in our neighborhood

    Updated Nov 10, 2006

We thought it important to inform everyone in the Gum Tree area that we have had a mountain lion coming to our property for the last month. On October 15 it attacked and killed one of our cats right next to our house at 2 a.m. Our dog scared it and I watched as it ran away. It came again on Wednesday, October 25, at 5:10 a.m. and killed, and got away with, our second cat. Finally, last night, October 30, between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. we lost our third cat. When this first started happening, we couldn’t believe that we could a...

  • Teachers are heroes

    Updated Nov 10, 2006

November 12-18 is Retired Teachers’ Week. I would like to praise the heroes in our schools. Too many people are looking for heroes in all the wrong places. Movie stars and rock musicians, athletes and models aren’t heroes; they’re celebrities. Heroes abound in public schools, a fact that doesn’t make the news. There is no precedent for the level of violence, drugs, broken homes, child abuse and crime in today’s America. Education didn’t create these problems but deals with them every day. Last year the average schoolteach...

  • De Luz Road full of adventures

    Updated Nov 10, 2006

I am a traveler of De Luz Road Monday through Friday. I must confess that this road is, to say the least, an experience that I won’t soon forget. The mornings bring drivers in and out for the working people, and also school buses full of young teens and elementary school children. Do you have children on these buses? Well, if you do, I would be very concerned about some of the drivers on this winding road. Every day that I travel this road to work or to go home I come across someone who couldn’t care less about their lif... Full story
