  • Report card time

    Updated Nov 21, 2013

California now has the highest sales tax, the highest gasoline tax, and the highest marginal income tax rates in the United States. These high rates of taxation are contributing factors to California’s ongoing ranking in the bottom tier of business-friendly states. The people of California have long understood the negative impact of excessive taxation. In 1978, California voters overwhelmingly enacted Proposition 13, which eliminates yearly increases in property taxes based on re-assessed property value. Recently, the H...

  • Is art important to Fallbrook?

    Updated Nov 21, 2013

I’ve lived in Fallbrook since 2000 and rarely participated in civic activities. After my husband passed away, I questioned if I wanted to make Fallbrook my permanent home since my husband’s nursery kept us here and now I had complete freedom to live anywhere. I answered “yes” to the question and part of that decision was a commitment to get involved with where I called home. Since art was one of my passions, I became part of Fallbrook Arts, Inc. as a board member. My decision to get involved with FAI was to help expand...

  • Hospital care exceeded expectations

    Updated Nov 21, 2013

I am writing in regards to Fallbrook Hospital. We have lived in Fallbrook for less than two years and love it here. Since we have been here, I had heard and read many negative stories about Fallbrook Hospital and was concerned what to do if at some time we had to go there. Last week I had cause to have to make that decision and decided that Fallbrook Hospital was only five minutes away and that is where I should go. I am happy to say that my previous concerns from stories I had heard were not what I experienced. The care I... Full story

  • Fluoride is not a cavity fighter.

    Updated Nov 21, 2013

Not long ago I received a letter from FPUD stating we now had fluoride. The letter made fluoride sound like it was a good thing for those of us in Fallbrook who use the water supplied by Metropolitan Water Supply. Nothing could be further from the truth, as fluoride is a “poison.” Fluoride is a waste product derived from fertilizer, aluminum waste and other ingredients that are too many to list. Fluoride is harmful to the people who drink the water and bathe in the water. Recently, the City of Davis California voted to not... Full story

  • Re: "County may add veterans' services to libraries" [Village News, 10/31/13]

    Updated Nov 21, 2013

I would like to respond to the article, “County may add veterans’ services to libraries,” in the Oct. 31 edition of the Village News. It is wonderful and a much needed service for veterans to have the ability to work with the County Veterans’ Assistance Program at local libraries in their communities. And glad to hear the Board of Supervisors approved a much needed service for our veterans. But Fallbrook veterans need not wait to have a County Veterans Service Officer (CVSO) come to the Fallbrook library. The Foundat...

  • Car club holds annual Turkey Shoot and Poker Run

    Updated Nov 21, 2013

FALLBROOK – On Nov. 9, Fallbrook Vintage Car Club (FVCC) members, their families and friends turned out in record numbers for the club’s annual Turkey Shoot and Poker Run. Over 50 people participated and in spite of the event’s title, they didn’t shoot poor defenseless turkeys. The ‘turkey shoot’ reference helps conjure up the feeling of the ‘old days’ when the turkey hunt was usually combined with a poker game afterwards. The car club’s event is a take-off of tha...

    Updated Nov 21, 2013

In past years, North County Conference league cross-country competition has included dual meets, but this year the conference coaches replaced dual meets with league cluster meets in which all six teams participate. The first Avocado West League cluster meet took place Oct. 4 at Buena Vista Park in Vista, and Fallbrook High School’s girls finished last as a team both in the varsity race and in the junior varsity competition. “I think they learned from that and they’re ready to improve,” said Fallbrook coach Tim Hauck....
