    INDIO - A 47-year-old man who may be the ''Desperate Bandit,'' blamed for nine bank robberies in Riverside, Orange and San Bernardino counties, was behind bars today. Michael Patrick Downing of Chino Hills was stopped on westbound Interstate 10 between Washington and Cook streets in a white Toyota Corolla used in a robbery of a 1st Bank branch in Indio, Ben Guitron of the Indio Police Department said.   • Riverside man killed in rollover crash in Woodcrest

    WOODCREST - A Riverside man was killed in predawn rollover crash in Woodcrest today. The motorist was identified as Jason Chamberlin, 41. Reports from the Riverside County fire department and the coroner said his pickup truck hit a stop sign and rolled at the intersection of Van Buren Boulevard and Whispering Spur Street.     RIVERSIDE - UC Riverside officials have fired back at an internet magazine that posted an article claiming that the UCR campus is one of ''The 25 Most-Dangerous Colleges In America.''
