Carissa, along with her mother, Lisa Hardinge, and her brother, arrived back in San Diego Wednesday evening, November 19. After hearing a report in regard to an investigation into allegations of misuse of public funds by “Public Official, Superintendent and Business Manager” at a public board meeting on November 12, the Board of Trustees of the Vallecitos School District (VSD) voted to approve an extension of Superintendent Paul A. Cartas’ contract to July 30, 2013. In addition, the suit claims that FUHSD and King wrongly cancelled the journalism class for the 2008-2009 school year and removed the tea...

The Marine Corps Reserve at Camp Pendleton facilitates boxes, p...
FALLBROOK — Wendall Doty was one of 225 participants in the Thanksgiving Walk/Run to Feed the Hungry, sponsored by the Fallbrook Food Pantry, on Saturday, November 15. Doty was homeless and had a drinking problem when he was first introduced to the Recovery Program at Riverview Evangelical Free Church in Bonsall several years ago. Jay Lawrence, a member of the church, worked with Doty and referred him to the Fallbrook Food Pantry for assistance. Doty has been receiving nutritional food allotments from the pantry on a w...
I experienced a special act of kindness recently. My wife and I are retired seniors. My wife’s wheelchair has a metal frame accessory which needed repair. I took it to Eagle Eye Fabrication on Main (across from Wells Fargo Bank). Mr. Drew Keys took the frame and soon gave it back to me not only repaired but strengthened and improved. And he would not accept payment from me! I will always remember this thoughtful act. Fallbrook is indeed a town with a big heart. Bob Sanchez...

I am writing on behalf of the Fluke-Hardinge family. Months back, in the Village News, there was an article about a wonderful young lady from Fallbrook High. In June of this year, Carissa Fluke, 15, was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. She was rushed to Rady’s Children’s Hospital. Carissa underwent every treatment, including intense chemotherapy; nothing was working. In September, the family was told of an experimental treatment in Memphis, TN, at St. Jude’s Hospital. The family was given one day to leave for Memph...
Fallbrook is known as a town that welcomes and hosts hundreds of hardworking volunteers. These volunteers perform many of the functions that paid employees might do in other locations. They are what help make this a wonderful place to live. One such hardworking volunteer is Joe Spychaj, who is the treasurer of our Via Vista Road maintenance group. The past few years the number of households using our rural road and the required repairs has seemed to increase considerably. Most of the work gets done, mostly because of the...
The volunteers at the Fallbrook Food Pantry wish to thank all those who helped to make our Thanksgiving fundraiser walk/run a great success. We estimate the number of walkers or runners to have been between 225 and 250 and we received over $7,000 for our efforts. Well done, Fallbrook! I especially want to thank one of our Food Pantry board members, Young Milton, who visited several of our local schools, encouraging all to participate. Special thanks also to Josh Way, ASB advisor at Fallbrook High School, for organizing an...
Thanksgiving is a religious holiday, as annual presidential proclamations attest (www.pilgrimhall.org/thanxproc.htm). From the Continental Congress of 1782: “…It being the indispensable duty of all Nations, not only to offer up their supplications to Almighty God, the giver of all good, for his gracious assistance in a time of distress, but also in a solemn and public manner to give him praise for his goodness in general…do hereby recommend to the inhabitants of these States in general, to observe… Thursday the twenty-...
My husband and I visited the Bonsall Farmer’s Market at Bonsall Elementary School last Sunday and were amazed at the excellent prices and quality of the fruits and vegetables offered. We made a wonderful meal using the fresh-made spinach pasta and sun-dried tomato pesto from Delaney’s, the skinniest, tastiest asparagus and delicious garlic artisan bread from Belen’s. We bought apples, pluots, broccoli, big bunches of sunflowers, tasted barbecued pork samples and ate the largest filled crepe from Cassie’s Crepes! I heartil... Full story
Dear Fallbrook Families, It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that my last day at William H. Frazier School will be December 16. I want to take this opportunity to thank those families that I have proudly served for the last 15 years for allowing me to be a part of your family. Please know these years serving you have been a true blessing for me. Although I am leaving Fallbrook, I still remain with the FUESD. I have asked for a transfer to our school out at San Onofre. I am excited and looking forward to this new chapter...
The only time in the last year I heard the word “hate” was by those against Proposition 8. They used the “hate” word all the time. So, I voted ‘yes’ on Proposition 8. Who wants to join the “hate” crowd? This group is now harassing, picketing, trying to victimize those who voted against their agenda. I voted ‘yes’ for marriage between a man and a woman. In my history book, a man and woman got together to have children. It was labeled “marriage.” It is for the procreation of the race, for the future of the tribe, village, town,... Full story
On Monday, November 10, I attended my Republican Party’s review of what went wrong on November 4 and our plans for the future. I expected suggestions of sweeping changes to our policies and was quite shocked to find out the vast majority of attendees felt that the party’s program over the last eight years was correct – and that the electorate (i.e. the voters) was wrong! Such arrogance! My party’s base, for the most part, still doesn’t get it. As I see it, we dearly deserved the trouncing we took at the polling stations.... Full story
I am Major Turkeyton. I served in the war six years ago against General Mallard and his ducks. Are you really going to eat a veteran for your Thanksgiving dinner? What a disgrace. To behead someone, to hand over utter humiliation by plucking a United States veteran: dishonorable. Also, if you insist on eating me for dinner, I find it only fair to inform you that I have not bathed in 20 years. A simple wash in the sink won’t cover up two decades of grime. Did you know that turkeys are going extinct? All these years of e... Full story
