“Let’s Read!” kicked off its second year on Friday, October 14, and occurred again on Friday, November 18, at Maie Ellis School. The monthly program pairs community leaders with the school’s first grade beginning readers. The volunteering adults are “listeners” who give of their time so young readers can proudly read books they have mastered. Lori Brown’s performance at the Shootout Behind the Jersey Lilly produced four wins for the Rainbow mounted shooter. Not only did Brown win Overall, Ladies Overall, and Ladies Level 3, but she also earned her first-ever rifle win at the October 29 competition in Norco. “It’s such an accomplishment for me,” she said of winning the rifle competition. Fallbrook High School’s girls volleyball team reached the CIF Division I semifinals before a November 15 loss to Torrey Pines ended the Warriors’ season. Fallbrook ended its season with an overall record of 23-8, including a 7-3 Avocado League record which earned a share of the league title. FALLBROOK — A Book Giveaway event was held at William H. Frazier Elementary School on Monday, November 14, in honor of National Children’s Book Week. Students were able to choose a book of their choice, donated by KB Homes, to take home to help expand their home libraries. The Fallbrook FFA recently went up north to get steers for the San Diego County Fair. They all had a great time at the Central Valley Showcase, where they were able to bid on some great cattle and meet new people from throughout California. A new four-lane highway located just south of the San Luis Rey River is Fallbrook Community Planning Group’s (FCPG) recommendation for improvement of State Route 76 (SR-76). At their November 21 meeting, the group approved this recommendation in response to the state’s notification of an Environmental Impact Report for this area.
