  • Interior designer arrested on two charges

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

On November 21, Sheriff’s deputies arrested Trina Koistra, 39, an interior designer who has worked as an independent contractor for various individuals and retailers in the Fallbrook area for the past year, for possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance. “The original crime took place at a residence on Highland Park Drive, where jewelry worth approximately $10,000 was taken,” reported Sgt. Rich Hendrickson. “A witness told one of the retailers Koistra had done some work for that she was showing... Full story

  • Boys cross-country second in CIF

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

Fallbrook High School’s boys cross-country team placed second in the CIF meet November 19 in San Diego. The Warriors had a total score of 111, which was derived from adding the positions of the team’s top five runners. Rancho Bernardo won the Division I championship with a score of 103 while Bonita Vista was third with a score of 113. “That’s huge,” said Fallbrook coach Marty Hauck. A total of 25 schools competed for the Division I title. The top three finishers qualified for the state finals, and this year’s squad becam...

  • Field hockey reaches CIF finals before loss to LCC

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

Fallbrook High School’s field hockey team reached the CIF Division I finals before a 2-0 loss November 19 to La Costa Canyon relegated the Warriors to runners-up. “They played beautifully. They played their hearts out,” said Fallbrook coach Kathy Waite. La Costa Canyon, which had been seeded second behind only Fallbrook in Division I, scored both goals in the first half of the finals. “We had to start playing catchup,” Waite noted. The Warriors’ usual strategy is to play aggressively and take an early lead. “We weren’t able... Full story

Many times volunteer plans require an outline to coordinate people, places an...

  • Education's newest outrage

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

Call me a cynic, but I think the educrats plan it this way. They wait for challenges to pass, like Propositions 74 and 75, and then when they win, they literally spit in the voter’s face. The latest outrage: the effort of these educrats to avoid any accountability for doing their job. By way of background, in 1999, in his first year as Governor, Gray Davis passed a milquetoast education package, intended to improve our schools. He also proposed a high school exit exam, a final test that would determine if the school d...

  • Correction on desalination letter

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

Please note and inform your readers of the following typo in your 11/17/05 edition of my desalination article. The sentence “However, this waste steam contains a considerable amount of high purity potable water at low cost” should have read “However, this waste steam contains a considerable amount of energy which can be used in a [vacuum] distillation plant to convert seawater into very high purity potable water at very low cost.” Editor’s Note: We apologize for the typographical error....

  • Bruce Thompson is a man of high integrity

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

I have known Bruce Thompson for a long time and I was upset to see his integrity and qualifications questioned by a person I have never heard of, Dee Lanzillo. Bruce Thompson is above reproach morally, professionally and politically. He is a successful businessman, a Presidential appointee and an involved father and grandfather. He has done much during his career to make Fallbrook a better place to live. I will continue to support him for supervisor regardless of propaganda put out by persons like Lanzillo. Come to think of...

  • Re: Michael Sanders' opinion of 11/17/05

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

You struck a sour note with me. The majority of other law-abiding, God-fearing citizens of this community and I take offense to being called immature and stupid, among other things. While I do agree with your four statements of a PERFECT LIFE, the rest of your writings only serve to further decay the morals of our society. In an effort to profile you I am having difficulty pinpointing where you are coming from. It is evident by your writings that you are well read but definitely not a parent or a responsible individual. A Bab... Full story

  • My water bill is making me angry

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

I don’t know about you, but I guess I’m like every other resident in the “friendly barrio;” when I receive my water bill, I just pay it without question. This time I sat down and looked at the bill and got really angry. I saw the breakdown of my bill, which shows that I only use $6.88 in actual water usage (going funky) and the rest of my bill — over $140 — is delegated to other bloated costs. Let’s break down what I pay to this water district. For a water meter that is decades old, rusting in the ground, I pay. For a ch...

  • Americans are not afraid of victory!

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

One of the glaring problems with American foreign policy is the number of outright cowards we count as allies. The constant whining and hand-wringing coming from our friends is hard to deal with. It seems that everyone is afraid of confrontation. It seems that we are so entangled in profit centers (international trade) that we only have corporate interests, not national interests. As I started my morning scan of the national and international press, I came upon an interesting headline on “insight on the news.” The hea... Full story

  • Bruce Thompson is hard-working, respected

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

I was disappointed to see the Village News felt the rantings of Dee Lanzillo were fit to print on Thanksgiving Day. She repeatedly referenced apples and oranges, but I kept thinking nuts. Her ‘food for thought’ was a heaping helping of misleading comments and attacks on Bruce Thompson. She also attacked Bill Horn, her former boss, as disgruntled employees who are asked to resign often do. Though sometimes hard to swallow, freedom of speech should be honored even when it produces garbage spewed by a failed political hack. In r...

  • FPG's iniquitous proposal for SR-76

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

The Fallbrook Planning Group’s (FPG) proposed realignment of SR-76 will trash Bonsall. They propose a split alignment, retaining the existing highway north of the river (for their convenience) and a new four-lane (expandable to six-lane) freeway south of the river to take all of the Riverside County and Orange County commuter traffic as well as the dump, gravel pit and casino traffic. Normally the FPG acts in a reasonable and rational manner; unfortunately, this proposal does not reflect any of those attributes. FPG says, “We... Full story

  • RE: 'County Supervisors "Just Say No" to medicinal marijuana ID cards'

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

As a California glaucoma patient whose emancipation has just been challenged by the San Diego County Supervisors, I find it utterly repulsive to read of Supervisor Bill Horn invoking Rosa Parks. The bad law that requires repudiation is the prohibition of cannabis....

  • RE: 'Friendly Village or another barrio?'

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

As a local Hispanic of Fallbrook, I was offended by this piece of work. They make it seem like every Hispanic who comes to Fallbrook brings trash with them. Not all of us are a bunch of no-good criminals. Some of us are actually trying to make a difference in this town. That was a cheap shot about the calling cards, so we can’t communicate with our families. Even if Fallbrook is turning into a little barrio, who says if it’s bad thing or not? Latinos will dominate one day. It will probably be better for the US. See, you giv...

  • RE: 'How many will be maimed, killed?'

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

Your letter sounded so depressing. Marines try not to dwell on that trash. Mission accomplishment is paramount. Sure, those things that you speak of are around somewhere in a Marine’s head, but firmly pushed to the very back. We signed up to serve our country, so please, don’t cry and wonder, “What are you doing to our youth?” That’s more insulting than anything. We are proud to serve. Why are you angry? This is the life of a Marine. Don’t be sad — but continue being angry. Continue to be angry that terrorists are trying to... Full story

  • 'For God's sake, go!'

    Updated Dec 1, 2005

I’m quite sure of the basic facts, but time and age have dimmed my memory of the exact details. Nevertheless, the basic facts are these. Perhaps 150 years ago, a leader within the English government in London (probably the elected Prime Minister of that time) had brought the county to the brink of disaster due to wrong and irrational decisions he had made. Unfortunately, he could not accept his own shortcomings, on the fact that he was a major part of the problem and not of the solution. Finally, a leading member of the P...
