  • Doctor returns to Fallbrook to establish roots

    Updated Dec 1, 2011

When a former Fallbrook resident comes home after living out of the area, there is a certain nostalgia that accompanies the trip home. Seeing old buildings in downtown and familiar haunts is one of the perks of being home, and for doctor Brandon Miller, the opportunity to come home to Fallbrook is one he could not pass up. Miller, who graduated from Fallbrook’s educational system in 1993, has longstanding roots in town. His mother, Kathy Miller, is a well-known teacher, and h...

  • Re: Nothing is lost by eliminating fossil fuel pollution [Letter, Village News, 11/10/11]

    Updated Dec 1, 2011

Mr. Evans makes a cogent argument for global warming. The cause is less clear. We know there have been significant temperature changes in the past, all caused by variations in the heat source. So the cause today is speculative. Then he loses credibility with the statement “Nothing is lost by eliminating fossil fuel pollution and severe consequences may occur if we do not act.” Our modern economy is heavily dependent on energy, primarily derived from fossil fuels and there is no viable substitute. Alternative sources of ene...

  • Library needs stairway to lower parking lot

    Updated Dec 1, 2011

I want to applaud Marianne Doty’s observations in last week’s Opinion page about our new library, especially the lack of stairs between the upper and lower parking lots. The upper lot generally has heavy traffic and parking spaces there are at a premium, so parking on the lower level is both convenient and necessary. However, to get to the upper level you must hike all the way to Fig Street or Alvarado Street. I pointed out this deficiency to library staff shortly after the library opened, and filled out the suggestion for...

  • Fallbrook could be connected to Coaster

    Updated Dec 1, 2011

The Marine Corps is interested in building a Coaster station on Camp Pendleton. The Coaster is the modern, efficient commuter train that runs between Oceanside and San Diego. The Marines see the Coaster as a convenient and cost effective way to move people between the Base and Oceanside as well as north and south along the coast. The project would be relatively low cost because the tracks, called the Fallbrook spur, already extend from the Coaster maintenance facility at the southwest corner of the base to the Naval Weapons... Full story

Any losses not deductible this year can carry forward as deductions in future years. 2. For those in the 10 or 15 percent tax brackets, there is no tax on capital gains or qualified dividends. This can help you... Full story
