  • Cheer and Song have 'morphed'; Squads depend on strong leadership

Nathalie Taylor, Special to the Village News|Updated Feb 27, 2019

In the cheer world of the 21st century it is not only the jumps and cartwheels that entertain, it is now high kicks, clever dance moves and the swish of pom-poms, which are reminiscent of the days when schools boasted both cheerleaders and songleaders. The first songleader squad at Fallbrook High performed during the 1947-1948 school year. It consisted of three members, one of whom was Marion Pearson McLean, who recalls wearing her uniform to school on game days, a tradition that has continued to this day. However, the 2005...

  • What kind of a sick adult puts on a party like this for kids?

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

If anyone is reading this, he or she has most likely already read the story on page one about the recent “Pimp and ’Ho” party. Apparently they’ve been happening in Temecula and other places, but an adult came into our office last week and asked us if we’d heard about one happening in Fallbrook. We heard from many people that it was a birthday party for a 14-year-old girl and it was planned by her parents. To top it off, there are reports from kids who attended that there were “older guys in their 30s” taking pictures and...

  • The 'fruits' of false teaching

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

Mark Corcoran, in his recent letter to this paper, is to be congratulated for continuing the exposure of the false teaching taking place at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. When men of God, who Frs. Bud and Bernie are supposed to be, take up pseudo science, which theistic evolution of de Chardin is, you get teaching devoid of Christianity. Using the platform of the House of God to tell parishioners how they should vote on state financial propositions is immoral at best — perhaps even illegal. It is the shepherd at St. Pet...

  • A mom's perspective on Prop. 73

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

This November make sure you mark ‘yes’ on Prop. 73, which requires a doctor to notify a parent 48 hours before performing an abortion on a girl under 18. I had no idea that it was legal for a child to obtain these services with the school’s knowledge and yet without her parents’ knowledge. My daughter cannot be issued an aspirin at school without my consent or go on field trips but she can bypass my notification for this serious procedure. Who’s going to support her in the aftermath of such a trauma? If there are any medic...

  • Friends of Lisa Domingo need your help

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

As many of you may know, Lisa Domingo has battled her cancer. Her heroic fight has enabled her to gain valuable time with her 10-year-old son, Sierra. She has unselfishly continued to work and care for her patients. The current obstacle facing Lisa pertains to the tumors in her liver. Lisa has endured numerous tests that have determined that she is a candidate for a new cutting edge treatment. In simple terms, radioactive biospheres are injected via the arteries directly inside the live tumors. The spheres continue to bombard...

  • America's culture of blame

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

A few days ago I was watching a television program about airline travel. One segment was about a young man who was drunk, loud and aggressive. He was denied boarding because of his behavior. After his arguments fell on deaf ears he walked away complaining. As he stalked away, he turned to the camera and said, “As long as Bush is in the White House we will all be treated like this. Not just me as a black man but everyone will be treated like this.” He was blaming the President for his state of drunkenness. This is a par...

  • Why doesn't Horn oppose the landfill?

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

In reading your Village News 10/13 edition article entitled “Judge dumps on landfill developer” by Ron Jonason, I would like to express my thanks for your printing this informative article. Judge Anello identified serious flaws in the final environmental impact report (FEIR) that had been certified by the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health. As a result of this ruling, the landfill approval process may have been halted and we may be able to avoid having a landfill near the San Luis Rey aquifer. Most not... Full story

  • Prop 75 impacts all Californians

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

In response to recent public opposition to Prop. 75, thank you to all who speak out in support of workers in California. Prop. 75 is an attack on the teachers, firefighters, nurses and law enforcement agencies — the core employees who provide California’s education and safety foundations throughout the state. I am a non-union employee, and in my opinion the only employees in California who are protected from discrimination and retaliation are the employees with union representation, who happen to be the employees who edu...

  • Great nations recognize the worth and dignity of labor

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

If unions are so powerful and pose such a danger to the American economy, why aren’t school teachers as rich as politicians like Bill Frist and Dick Cheney? If teachers, nurses and firemen are so empowered, why is all the legislation written by corporate lobbyists and lawyers? When was the last time you heard of a schoolteacher being treated to an extravagant all-expense-paid golfing vacation in Scotland? Having a voice goes straight to the heart of dignity. A people who have no voice in their government or employment are s...

  • RE: Judge dumps on landfill developer

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

Thank you, Pam Slater. You don’t even represent our community, but you have been a valiant voice in defending our causes. I wish our Supervisor, Bill Horn, had the courage that you show. Where has Bill Horn been on this issue? His media spokesman said it would be inappropriate for Horn to comment! When would it be appropriate? If this dump gets built and it leaks into Oceanside’s water supply, will Horn say something then? Unfortunately, no, he won’t. He will continue hiding in his ivory tower while his political meal ticke...

  • I've done my part

    Updated Oct 20, 2005

In response to the comments made by Pat Braendel in her letter “Programs can help curb crime,” the comments made by Ms. Braendel were “What has been your contribution to the community?” I would be glad to list all of them here but I do not think the Village News would grant me a full page in which to respond, so I will be brief. On September 12 I assisted an elderly resident on DeLuz Road, where one of Fallbrook’s nasty teens was verbally assaulting this individual. Later that evening I contacted the Sheriff’s Department... Full story

It unifies students, alumni, faculty, staff and community in a unique event that celebrates the past, present and future. At Fallbrook High School, the fanfare is great and the celebration extensive… a clear message that this is a student body and community proud of its living legacy. “It’s a chance for students, staff and alumni to dedicate a whole week to celebrate being Warriors,” enthused ASB Director Josh Way.
