  • Re: 'FLC toughens up on unleashed dogs [Village News, 11/11/10]

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

Dear people of Fallbrook, I have been amused at the recent backlash regarding the Village News article on unleashed dogs in the parks and trails. Growing up hiking the trails along the Santa Margarita my whole life, I am familiar with the problems of late with not so much the animals, pets, four-legged family members, whatever, rather their owners. As my Pop used to say, “I’ve been bit plenty by friendly dogs.” In fact, I personally have been bitten three times on the Santa Margarita Trail by dogs introduced to me as ‘frie...

  • Notice to members of Senior Center

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

All members of the Fallbrook Senior Center are requested to attend the next General Meeting on December 14, 2010 at 10 a.m. to review a recently approved motion to remove the Board of Directors. The motion was tabled due to two persons insisting that all the members should be made aware of this action by the members in general. The motion will be taken from the table for further discussion and a revote. The motion was not predicated upon the termination of Irene Flores and this fact was made very clear. The motion was made... Full story

  • Senior mindlessness runs amok!

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

November 15 was a black day at the Fallbrook Senior Center when word leaked out that much-loved administrator Irene Flores had been “fired on the spot” after 34 years of dedicated service… no reason given! A disgruntled membership demanded explanation. Next morning, FSCSC president Frances Baca told some 150 irate Senior Citizens Club members, that “Irene, an independent contractor, was given a 30-day notice of relief of duties. We cannot divulge circumstances on the advice of our attorney and CPA.” Uproar ensued… long-time m...

  • The crumbling of Main Street shops

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

Another day, another store on Main Street crumbles into dust. It was one of our best – Scott and Amy’s Wee Little Sprouts. They were a fulcrum of our block, a store that sold great toys and clothes for children; and outstanding people who couldn’t keep losing money any longer. Like At Home on Main St., another dearly departed store that brought traffic down town for the rest of us and ultimately couldn’t make it. Why shop locally when you can get all of your stuff made in China and buy it at Target and Walmart? Then...

  • Fluoridation toxic to the brain

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

Prior articles have mentioned the toxic effects of fluoride on multiple body organs. Let’s focus on fluoride damage to the brain. There has been an explosion of attention deficit in children, i.e. autism and learning disabilities. There is an increase in Alzheimer’s that has crippled the aged. Why has there been an explosion in these? Researches have documented the increase in these population subgroups having fluoridated water supplies vs. control groups with non-fluoridated, but this damning information has been act...

  • Re: 'FLC toughens up on unleashed dogs' [Village News 11/11/10]

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

I too was upset and saddened by the negative and hostile tone regarding unleashed dogs. For 20 years I cared for my profoundly handicapped mother 24/7. For about an hour most days I walked and hiked in the beautiful Santa Margarita river areas with my dog(s). It was a beautiful and almost sacred time. I took such pleasure in observing nature and watching my dog(s) running around freely and splashing in the water. It was an hour of peaceful respite and helped me keep emotionally balanced during this difficult time. Now I feel... Full story

  • Light rain doesn't stop Thanksgiving Walk/Run

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

A huge “Thank you” to those who turned out to walk or run in the rain for the November 20 5K Walk to Feed the Hungry. Although our numbers were small, our spirit was strong. Participants helped the Food Pantry keep the doors open for those in need by bringing in a total of $2,400 at this fundraising event. Thanks to the event sponsors, to Major Market for their donation of bottled water and to mem... Full story

  • Did you see the dramatic flash of blue?

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

My wife and I were sitting outside at about 9:15 pm on December 4 when we saw a huge flash of blue over the western skies. This flash was so massive, bright, and intense, that it filled the entire sky and I thought we were about to be vaporized or something. I know this sounds dramatic but it was truly that intense. I don’t know where it originated, but it was either in Fallbrook, Camp Pendleton or maybe over the ocean. I am really not a crazy person, but I am starting to feel this way about it. I guess I would like to k...

  • Let's help the skate park serve our youth

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

The Fallbrook Skate Park opened last month. Now, there’s a safe place for kids to practice this popular sport – not in a parking lot, not on our narrow, twisting streets. Fallbrook has grown, and the needs of Fallbrook families have grown with it. I’ve heard many comments over the years about giving our children, especially our adolescents, something to do. We don’t want kids hanging out on street corners, or glued to TVs or computers. We don’t want to have to drive out of town. As a community, we need to reach out to...

  • Concert texter needs to learn manners

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

I had the pleasure of attending the Fallbrook Music Society Concert on Saturday, December 4. Guess what? A very rude young lady sitting next to me was texting, which caused a very bright light to shine in my direction. Can someone explain to me why anyone would pay $30 and sit and text? Since there were empty seats behind me, we moved. Hope it was important. Maybe she was texting the President? Gigi Sartor... Full story

Luckily for those Grinches out there, attending the 13th annual “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” is a perfect way to be groomed with festive cheer. • County urges shoppers to verify receipts to avoid being overcharged this holiday season

    Updated Dec 9, 2010

SAN DIEGO COUNTY – The holiday shopping season is here again, and shoppers should remember to double-check their receipts to be sure they’re not overcharged by faulty cash register price-scanners. So far this year, 22 percent of the 1,340 stores inspected by the County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures showed price-scanning errors – and not the kind of errors that would put smiles on consumers’ faces. County inspections rang up 21,729 items at the 1,340 stores. The inspections found that sho...
