  • SoCal Griffin Girls compete in Florida

    Updated Sep 27, 2022

FALLBROOK – The U19 Griffin Girls returned home from Fort Lauderdale with their heads held up high, and what was possibly their best performance at the Invitational National All Star Championships. In the second match, the SoCal girls fought hard once again to go down by a narrow 5-0 to the South. While the other teams consisted of mostly college players, SoCal was th...

Phil Brust, the man and woman, both of whom Brust estimated to be in their 40s, entered the residence in the 31000 block of Wrightwood Road in Bonsall in order to retrieve the woman’s property. • Regulations cripple senior citizens in mobile home park community

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

Within the last decade, the state of California has made a point to strongly enforce environmental health codes in order to provide higher quality lives for its citizens. However, these same codes have led to several senior Fallbrook residents being threatened with misdemeanor violations and unaffordable fines. On September 30, Martin Ortega, an environmental health specialist with San Diego County’s Department of Environmental Health (DEH), Land and Water Quality Division, inspected mobile homes in Crestview Estates, in t... Full story

Seymour demonstrated t...

  • Man-made global warming is a fraud, scam and a lie

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

No need for President Obama to go to Copenhagen to force Americans to pay more in taxes to support the fraudulent theory of man-made global warming. Just ask the 4,000 scientists from 106 countries who signed the Heidelberg Appeal, which includes 72 Nobel Prize winners. The appeal warns industrialized nations that no compelling scientific consensus exists to justify mandatory greenhouse gas emissions cuts. What about the Oregon Petition (www.oism.org/pproject), sponsored by Dr. Frederick Seitz, former past president of the...

  • Billboard advertising alcohol use at holidays is offensive

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

Recently, a billboard in Fallbrook owned by Clear Channel, used the sacred holiday of “Dia de los Muertos” in an advertisement to sell Tradicional Tequila. The billboard is located on Main Street next to the 7 Eleven. The Fallbrook Youth Prevention Group is offended by the use of the Latino culture to try to sell alcohol. Alcohol advertising in our neighborhoods over-exposes youth to alcohol messages. Signage close to schools and areas where youth congregate promotes unhealthy behavior among youth. Pre-teens and ado...

  • Quarries: no, yes, maybe

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

Liberty Quarry has many opponents as there is always a group or individual who claims NIMBY. I am not defending Granite, but certain points might be considered. Where would we be in this nation, or world, without building material? Yes, sand, rock and cement to make concrete. The source seems to always be in dispute. Think of Mission Valley, formerly with corn crops, cattle ranches and eventually sand plants for material to construct roads, homes, factories and the uncountable amount of apartments. In place of sand plants,... Full story

  • Water main break

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

My landscaper informed me that there was “water running in the creek.” After months of drought, I knew this was not a “natural occurrence.” After determining that indeed water was running in the creek, and not knowing exactly when this water had started to run, I went into panic mode. I made a call to Fallbrook Public Utility District and within 30 minutes they had someone out to my property to see what the trouble was. The trouble was a “main line break.” This break affected me and my neighbors all through the area. The c...

  • Are Christmas trees going green or brown?

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

Why do people cut down trees for Christmas when they can get fake trees? When you have real trees, after you are done, you just throw it away. But when you have a fake tree, you can use it over and over again. All trees give good air to us, even Christmas trees. Plus, trees help global warming. It takes years for trees to grow tall. An eight foot tree takes over ten years. You can buy a live tree and you can have the smell of fresh trees too. Then you can plant it and get another one. Even though it costs money, you will...

  • N.C. Fire appreciates community partners

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

Congratulations, Roger Boddaert on the successful “Be firewise” workshop you presented on November 21, 2009. The event was well attended and as the Fire Marshal for the North County Fire Protection District, I want to thank you for putting forth the effort to make our community aware of how beautiful a firesafe landscape can be. The time you gave to this community event was tremendous. You always go the extra mile and you are a wonderful example of the committed people we are lucky to have as Fire Prevention partners her...

  • I have a better name for Liberty Quarry

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

Along with thousands of Fallbrook and Temecula residents, I am staunchly opposed to Granite Construction’s plan to blast a giant pit mine deep into the hills above the Temecula Valley, just up the road from my home in Rainbow. Granite Construction Corporation had the calculated gall to name this proposed monstrosity the “Liberty Quarry.” I ask, Liberty to do what? Liberty to add thousands of gravel-spilling, smoke and ember-spewing trucks onto the I-15 where we all drive every day? Liberty to add crystal silica and diese...

  • Conservation urged temporarily during pipeline maintenance

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Public Utility District is asking customers to conserve water as FPUD and many water agencies in the San Diego region will have their imported water service discontinued now through Dec. 16. This is particularly important in the following parts of town: De Luz, Toyon Heights and Sandia Creek. FPUD’s water wholesaler, the San Diego County Water Authority, will perform routine maintenance, inspection and repairs on the pipelines. FPUD requested growers in those areas to irrigate heavily through Dec...

  • Healthcare District proposes stipend increase for directors

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

At the November 11, 2009 meeting of the Board of Directors of the Fallbrook Healthcare District (FHD), a motion was made to increase the stipend paid to the Directors for attending meetings during the month. At the present time, Directors are paid a stipend of $100 per month. The motion, if passed, would increase the stipend to $100 per meeting per month to a maximum of $500 per month per director. I am not in favor of the increase. To my best recollection, the two newest members of the Board had never attended a meeting... Full story

  • Spending money where it is really needed

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

Recently I was invited to support a retirement community in San Diego. However, I can’t support it while there are other people more needy and suffering, such as the Palestinians, for example. They need a state, with borders open to commerce and travel, with houses, infrastructure, agriculture, industry rebuilt, with diplomatic relations worldwide. Wealthy people and nations can do this by donating money, materials, expert planning, and skilled labor if needed to assist local labor. The “Peace bonus” from this effort will...

  • Let's die with our boots off

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

Letter writer Dorene Terryberry lamented the sight of “families paying last respect” with empty boots instead of with crosses. She implores “Let us die with our boots on (Letter, Village News, Dec. 3, 2009).” I suspect Ms. Terryberry does not know the origins of the phrase “He died with his boots on.” It signifies that the gentleman in question did not die peacefully in his bed, but met with a violent and sudden end. ‘Out West’ people had a disagreeable habit of shooting each other out in the OK Corral, and in the old Sout...

  • Holiday bargain may be a bust

    Updated Dec 10, 2009

SAN DIEGO – With the holiday shopping season just around the corner, it is important for consumers to be aware of the prices they are being charged at the cash register. This year, the County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures scanned over 22,000 items at 1,592 locations, and found that 25 percent of the stores inspected for pricing accuracy had errors. Shoppers were 2.6 times more likely to be overcharged than undercharged on purchased items. That equates to an overcharge/ undercharge ratio of $4.50 o... Full story
