  • Turf war amongst RMWD users dismays me

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

I have been a property owner and Rainbow customer for over 30 years. I am a retired CPA and have regularly attended Rainbow board meetings and participated in various district committees ever since I built my home in Fallbrook over 17 years ago. I am writing with reference to the full page advertisement on page A-7 of the 12/1/05 issue of the Village News. I am dismayed to see a turf war being ignited between agricultural and domestic Rainbow water users. None of us like to see high density development in our area,...

  • Don't be such a Scrooge, Mr. Ragland

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

This country was not founded on Christian morals but human morals. In every major religion, the same ethics are taught: to respect your fellow man. Unfortunately, you are so caught up in defending Christmas that you completely forgot to embody the same meaning of Christmas that you are defending. When you can start viewing everyone as God’s children, then maybe you’ll take the true meaning of Christmas to heart and spread joy and love to all. Don’t be such a Scrooge, Mr. Ragland. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all.... Full story

  • RE: Lopez's letter 'Friendly Village or another barrio?'

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

Mr. Lopez, your rebuttal letter to the editor was very distasteful, to say the least. You started out by making a good point and then trashed it by stating if Fallbrook turns into a barrio that would not be such a bad thing. Mr. Lopez, I beg to differ with you. As a resident of Fallbrook for over 25 years I refuse to allow this friendly village to turn into a barrio. How dare you suggest such a thing? We decent tax-paying citizens of Fallbrook have pride in our community and want to keep it clean and crime-free. We have... Full story

  • Rivers family says thank you

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

The family of Don Rivers wishes to thank everyone for the kind words and actions during Don’s recent illness and sudden death. Special thanks to the Grand Tradition for helping with a beautiful, dignified memorial service Saturday, December 10. Also, thanks to the Camp Pendleton Fire Department and North County Fire Department, Fallbrook Masonic Lodge, Woodcarvers, Exploradores and all our friends and family....

  • Thank you for the recognition

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

The Save Our Forest “branch” of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy enjoyed the Fallbrook Christmas parade very much. Although we were not out to win a prize for the best float or any other reward, we felt it important to be there to let the community know we are still around. The recognition we received with applause and “thumbs-up” from onlookers made the cold night ride well worth it. These groups of volunteers work quietly and unassumingly in various areas of support for our Treescape Project started some ten years ago. So...

  • Join me Dec. 19 to oppose Pardee density plan

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

I am writing regarding the plans for development at I-15 and SR-76. Three developers are pursuing housing and commercial use of three separate parcels. My comments on the subject are based on three different perspectives which illustrate the basis for my genuine concern regarding plans for developing these parcels. First, I have been a resident of Fallbrook since 1988. This is my home. Second, I am a community volunteer who has worked diligently to preserve and protect the rural nature of our community and the economic... Full story

  • Please keep our Village clean

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

I am a resident of Fallbrook and love my little town. I love to drive down Main Avenue and it is the first place I take visiting friends and relatives. The parade is looked forward to yearly by my oldest son, and now his young brother, but I am saddened by the way the streets look after the parade. This year, like all others, after the floats were gone and the people were packing up to go home they forgot something as important as their lawn chairs and blankets: trash. There was so much trash on the ground after, I was so... Full story

  • RE: 'Beware of reasoning by historical analogy'

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

Dr. Tilford is quite correct in pointing out that Iraq is not Vietnam, and describes many examples of how these two conflicts are very different. What he fails to mention are the undeniable parallels. But any discussion of the Iraq war should be prefaced with admitting the six major mistakes and/or deceptions of the Bush administration regarding Iraq: there were no WMDs in Iraq; Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11; we are not seen as liberators; the Iraqi oil is not paying for the invasion, reconstruction and occupation; our gas... Full story

  • Barbershop performance was a delight

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

There was a wonderful musical performance Sunday at the high school auditorium by the Music Men of the Palomar Pacific Chapter Barbershop Harmony Society, complemented by youth choirs from Carlsbad and Fallbrook. What a pity that the auditorium was only about half full. The emphasis was on Christmas music and it was delightful. And at the end, “Merry Christmas” was shone on the wall. It was very nice to see in this age of political correctness of “Happy Holidays!” On another subject: We can all be thankful for men like Mr...

  • 'School Slates' enhances school spirit, pride

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

The Village News is to be commended for its continuing focus on the schools in the Fallbrook area — especially the complete section in the December 8 issue. It sets an example for the children and exemplifies education as an important value to our community. You also further enhance school spirit and pride. In a sense, the Village News is educating our community about education itself. Education can lead to knowledgeable, successful, articulate individuals who make up our community. Therefore, education benefits everyone h... Full story

  • Costello is a great guy!

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

On Sunday, December 4, at about 1 p.m. I witnessed Roy Costello towing the Masonic Christmas float back to its storage place. On Mission Road, near the entrance to DeLuz, he stopped, got out of his truck and helped an elderly lady who was in the middle of the street over to the sidewalk. She seemed somewhat confused to me and I thought, what a great thing for Roy to do....

  • Open letter from Bob Glick

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

I would like to thank the constituents, my many friends, supporters and the dedicated workforce of the Rainbow Municipal Water District for having given me the opportunity to serve our community to the best of my abilities. It is my sincerest hope that our district will be able to resolve the many issues that have proven so contentious over the years and realize the stability and prosperity we all desire and deserve. It is my wish that the new management team embraces the opportunity change provides. May they find within...

  • Teen Editorial; My broken-down home

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

Bonsall Charter Academy for Learning (BCAL) has no grass. We have dirt and gravel. We have trailers with broken doors and windows and holes in the ceilings. The steps up to one set of trailers bounce when you walk on them because they broke a while ago and nobody ever fixed them. When it is raining outside, it is also raining inside, because our roof leaks. Our idea of a cafeteria is a room with two vending machines that is also a library in the works and is usually locked. Our idea of communication is telling someone a...

  • Memories of our 2005 Christmas Parade

    Updated Dec 16, 2005

Saturday dawned cool and damp on Red Mountain but we were cheered by typically gorgeous Fallbrook weather as we headed into town on East Mission a little after 3 o’clock. A moment of sadness caught my breath as we viewed a green hat with white trim in the middle of the road. Meant for a volunteer elf, I was sorry for someone’s disappointment at the loss. For the seventh or eighth (?) year my husband Carroll and I were helping other directors of the Fallbrook Historical Society with refreshments near the beginning of the parad...
