  • Completion of new Clemmens Lane Park celebrated

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

A group of young boys were so determined to be on time for the grand opening of Clemmens Lane Park the afternoon of December 10, they took their soccer balls to school with them that day. They planned to be the first ones to inaugurate the soccer field at the new $800,000 facility. The boys sat together patiently as San Diego County Supervisor Bill Horn, Parks and Recreation Director Brian Albright, and Service Area 81 member Ricardo Favela each took the podium and spoke of th... Full story

  • Man-made global warming is a fraud, scam, and a lie! (Part II)

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

Britain’s University of East Anglia said hackers a couple of weeks ago stole data and emails from its Climatic Research Unit, a leading global research center on climate change. These emails and documents are indeed shocking. The blog “Red State” reports the highlights: 1. Prominent environmental scientists organize a boycott of scientific journals if those journals publish scholarly material from global warming dissidents. 2. The scientists then orchestrate attacks on the dissidents because of their lack of scholarly materia...

  • Good news and bad news about RMWD

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

Good news, at the December Board meeting it was announced Rainbow water had received a grant to cover North and Northside reservoirs. So it looked like the discussed $100 a month assessment would be knocked down to $30 a month to cover Morro and Beck. After much discussion, the Board decided in these economic times even the $30 would be too much for some people, so reduced it further to a little over $16 a month over six years instead of three, the drawback, some time between three and six years the assessment will have to... Full story

  • Outraged that vehicles were towed during parade

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

I would like to express my personal outrage at what appears to be a first for the Fallbrook Christmas Parade. The manager of our newest drug store in Fallbrook decided to have cars parked in his lot on Dec. 5 towed out. Our local tow yard decided to charge over $300 to owners to retrieve their vehicles, towed only a few blocks. A few of the vehicles that were towed belonged to volunteers who worked in the parade staging area. I understand that it is within the legal right of any business to have a vehicle towed if signs are...

  • RE: 'Regulations cripple senior citizens in mobile home park community' [Village News, 12-10-09]

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

This article prompts me to wonder about Mr. Ortega’s statement in regard to Crestview Mobile Estate’s state inspection in 1998. Why is it that no one who resided there at the time has any memory of it? Longtime residents do not recall any inspections. Everyone would have been notified as they were for this inspection. If it did occur, who made the inspection, state or county? Were pre-existing changes cited or were they “grandfathered” in at that inspectors discretion as the unidentified HCD investigator mentioned in this re...

  • Restaurant's new owner did a great job

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

A big thank you to Tom Mullholland, the new owner of the Firehouse Broiler, for doing such a fabulous job catering the Fallbrook Boy’s Water Polo Banquet. He arrived promptly and supplied us with generous amounts of delicious green salad, coleslaw, tri-tip, pulled pork, chicken, pasta, beans and bread to feed our hungry water polo boys, their families and guests. We wish him the best of luck with his new business, and would recommend him to any groups planning banquets. Job well done! Janet McGurk Fallbrook Boy’s Water Pol...

  • More toys welcome at fire station

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

A nice problem to have... we need your help! The donated toys for Santa’s Toy Project are overflowing here at our Headquarters Fire Station, thanks to the remarkable generosity of one particular Fallbrook couple (who wishes to remain anonymous). But not to worry; we are sending these off to Santa’s “elves” to be wrapped, and would encourage any and all who still wish to donate to do so in time for Christmas. If you are still wondering what to give, historically there is a challenge getting gifts for older children and ado... Full story

  • Volunteer's car was towed off

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

Many of us in Fallbrook volunteer every year to help with the organization of the Fallbrook Christmas Parade. One member of our group actually comes up from Vista to help with the parade. Not knowing the intricacies of Fallbrook, he parked his car in the Walgreen’s parking lot while volunteering for the parade. After his job was done, he went back to the parking lot only to find his car had been towed away. He then had to get one of us to take him to Anytime Towing. After paying an exorbitant amount (over $300) to Anytime T... Full story

  • Santa found a cozy spot in the rain

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

My six-year-old daughter and a friend of hers were so pleased to find Santa at the Fallbrook Art Center on Sat. Dec. 12. It was pouring rain outside but so nice to see Santa’s smiling face at the art center. Thanks to the Historic Downtown Merchants Association for arranging this. C. Connor...

  • RE: 'Regulations cripple senior citizens in mobile home park community' [Village News, 12-10-09]

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

Why doesn’t the code enforcement division, specifically Mr. Ortega, take his little code book and go to another local trailer park and cite all those violations there? Is it because they are illegal or cannot afford to pay the fines and thus not provide revenue? It is interesting how the county turns a blind eye to these areas and allows them free reign but yet goes after a group of people who have probably built all these sheds and utility rooms so that they are sturdy and safe, not some slip shod piece of junk put t...

  • Secret Santa surprise "only in Fallbrook"

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

A heartfelt thank you to the woman who overheard my conversation with the sweet owner at Salon Ana. I was planning on an afternoon manicure with my two daughters, Emily and Anna, but as the week progressed I had run low on cash and decided to cancel my own manicure. Not wanting to disappoint my daughters, I kept their appointments. When I returned home from changing the appointment, the salon had called to say that a “secret Santa” was going to pay for my manicure. What a gracious and kind thing to do! In return I will con... Full story

  • Local military personnel appreciate extra work

    Updated Dec 17, 2009

FALLBROOK – If local residents or businesses need someone to help hang Christmas lights, serve hors d’oeuvres at their open house or valet park cars for their holiday party or special event, they can hire a Marine or member of the U.S. Navy to do it. Five years ago, Mark and Tori Baird discovered that Camp Pendleton military personnel were more than willing to work day labor jobs to put food on the table, fix a dented fender or buy a child’s birthday gift. All that was neede...
