  • The holidays; a time to reflect and give thanks

    Updated Dec 19, 2013

The holidays are upon us. This year, Thanksgiving and Hanukkah fell on the same day; Christmas and New Year’s are fast approaching. The strain of holiday shopping at crowded malls, the endless parties, even the worry about what to serve guests or what gift to give a particularly persnickety relative often obscure the underlying message of the holiday season. Today, most of us celebrate the holidays in warm, safe homes surrounded by family and friends, confident that we are s...

  • Fallbrook Hospital Cardiac Rehab closed due to low demand?

    Updated Dec 19, 2013

This is the excuse offered by hospital management in a statement Dec. 3. In my opinion, it is a deceitful reconfiguration of facts with which to cover the real objective of CHS management – squeeze more profit out of the operation of our little hospital. If the hospital CEO had visited cardiac rehab in action, he would have seen about 25 patients, half dozen nurses and assistants, and at least one volunteer to teach mobility classes. This is only one of three sections – with a total of about 75 persons. Cardiac re... Full story

  • What is Duncan Hunter doing?

    Updated Dec 19, 2013

I’m not exactly sure what Duncan Hunter is doing in Congress, or even why he’s there. I know he is handsome and has a nice, deep voice, but other than that, I don’t get it. Consider his latest comments about potentially using tactical nuclear weapons against Iran, though they shouldn’t really surprise anyone. Whenever he does have a comment about anything, it’s usually something like this: “More guns; more ammo; more big, scary weapons.” If some general said we needed a million more napkin rings or the terrorists wi...

  • Re: "Flouride is not a cavity fighter" [Letter, Village News, 2/12/13]

    Updated Dec 19, 2013

Fluoride is the most toxic substance second only to arsenic. John Klink is spot-on, hit the nail on the head correct in his letter of Dec. 12. Most of San Diego County gets its water from Metropolitan Water which also adds fluoride. If the water board voted to add more fluoride, the nincompoops didn’t research the true toxicity vs. the minimal (if any) benefit in reducing tooth decay. Your water board is delegated to deliver to the water consumer a safe, healthy product. They have failed miserably because fluoride is most t...

  • Put a stop to the battle of the holiday bulge

    Updated Dec 19, 2013

FALLBROOK – The holiday season is typically dominated by parties, family gatherings, and festive foods. Overindulgence in rich foods and drink during the holiday season, compounded by chilly weather can make it uncomfortable for some to exercise, often leading to weight gain by the end of the holiday season. But focusing on diet and exercise during the holiday season can help one avoid unwanted weight gain and provide more energy as the season progresses. The following...

The decision of the North County Conference cross-country coaches to hold league cluster meets involving all six league teams instead of league dual meets during the 2013 season left schools without home meets unless they scheduled a non-league dual meet or tri-meet. Fallbrook High School hosted a tri-meet Oct. 11 involving Escondido, Oceanside, and Fallbrook, and the Warrior boys defeated both Escondido and Oceanside. “The guys performed well,” said Fallbrook coach Marco Arias. In a tri-meet, all three teams run in the sam... Full story
