The Fallbrook community is known for its lush, green countryside that sprawls throughout the open spaces of the area. This beautiful backdrop, synonymous with the quiet community of Fallbrook, has one plant in particular that leaves horticulturalists and plant aficionados cringing with dread. The California wild grape, known as vitis californica, is a California native plant that grows well in the Fallbrook area. Too well, according to some who have tried to get rid of it so... Full story
It is with great sadness that after 20 years Tina’s Chalet Deli (formally known as Chalet Liquor and Deli) will be closing its doors. It has been a great pleasure serving the community I love so dearly. For all of you who have patronized and supported me in this endeavor over the years, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Due to the slow economy and ever-rising costs of supplies, I have had to re-evaluate my working environment. This decision did not come easy because I think of all of you not only as patrons, but as fam...
At Christmas time, I attend concerts and church services where I hear beautiful carols of praise and thanks to Christ the King for bringing peace and joy to the world. However, one carol (I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day) says, “And then in shame I bowed my head; there is no peace on earth, I said, for hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth - good will to men.” The carol ends on a happy, hopeful note, but I’m not so hopeful. If we want peace and good will, a great many people must make a very great effor... Full story

On Dec. 14, 2011 my wife gave birth in unique circumstances. She gave birth to our child with her own hands in our home; without the presence of doctors, nurses, midwife or family. I am grateful to the North County Fire professionals, Captain Richard Rees and those with him, who so timely answered the call for help and provided the necessary care for my wife and child. You made my wife feel cared for and provided calm in the middle of a storm. You are a part of our family’s story. Justin Lowell...
