  • One person's opinion of the Village News

    Updated Dec 30, 2010

The Village News, like other small community papers, is a conduit that connects the community – the lifeblood that nourishes the schools, churches, organizations, and businesses so that the environment stays healthy and happy. It also affords the opportunity to express one’s self through the opinion pages; the ability to react and respond to stories; and the opportunity to laugh, cry, and reflect on articles about education, sports, animals, garden topics, religion and social events. No longer needed, you say, b...

  • A notice to members of the Fallbrook Senior Center

    Updated Dec 30, 2010

It is very important that you renew your membership dues prior to Jan. 10, 2011. At the Jan. 11 general meeting, the current board of directors will not allow anyone without a membership card to enter the meeting and you will have no voice or vote. This could allow the board of directors to limit the many dissatisfied and irritated members from having their opinions stated and stopping any effort to remove the members of the board of directors. Please remember that quitting the Senior Center will not help the Senior Center...

  • Why do my values, without believing in God, scare you?

    Updated Dec 30, 2010

I am an atheist and I consider myself a reasonable man. Believers in God are frustrated by atheists repudiation of the ‘carrot and stick of religion’ being necessary to convince people to be good because it questions their faith. In order to have belief in God you must set aside reason and depend only on faith. Religion was invented as a means to subjugate people and explain the unknown. Of course the “principals of the Faith” have to be constantly updated in order to remain relevant. Claiming “bad behavior isn’t religion’s...

  • Human nature plays into shopping decisions

    Updated Dec 30, 2010

Many good points have been made regarding the problems with vacant businesses in downtown Fallbrook. Fallbrook is suffering from many of the same problems that are affecting small towns across the country. Big box stores, where people can get lower priced products, are taking business away from the small, downtown businesses. Getting a better deal is always attractive to shoppers. That is human nature. The problem facing small towns is somewhat akin to the loss of manufacturing jobs. Americans want to be the best paid workers... Full story

  • Thank you to an honest citizen

    Updated Dec 30, 2010

We were packing the car with presents to head to our family Christmas Day get-together when I took my wallet out of one car, momentarily set it up on roof of another car, continued loading the car with presents, and off we went. To my dismay, I discovered I forgot to put my wallet in the car! It apparently flew off when we turned the corner at Old Highway 395 and Pala Mesa Drive. I didn’t have thoughts of sugarplums and candy when we returned to the scene to try and find it. That evening, while my family was opening gifts, w...
