Thanksgiving is my kind of holiday. Apart from the “thanks” part, the primary purpose of this celebration is eating. That is the one thing I do quite well. Our Pilgrim Fathers came up with the idea of a Thanksgiving feast. I’m sure that our Pilgrim Mothers were too busy doing the wash and caring for the children to think of any more work. The Pilgrim Fathers were sitting around waiting for someone to invent television so they could all watch a football game when someone had a...

Storm clouds were brewing like fresh morning coffee our normally placid home this past week. I sensed a growing controversy between my wife and myself. Regrettably, this past week we experienced a clash of attitudes. I can sum up my attitude in life quite nicely: Never do today what can be put off until tomorrow. On the other hand, my life’s companion firmly believes in doing things ahead of time. For instance, by the end of August all her Christmas shopping is finished, w...

I was sitting in a restaurant on a Friday afternoon enjoying a leisurely repast with some friends. Somewhere in the middle of our conversation, my cell phone went off. Without even thinking about it, I reached into my shirt pocket, pulled it out and answered it. It was then I was struck with an awful thought. I am now a child of this contemporary technological world. I never thought I would succumb to this sort of thing. But here I am; I’m not the man I used to be, and I...
We never stop to think about the depth of our true existence here on earth as our spirit thrives from day to day. Facing trials and tribulations as we go along, dealing with life’s winding roads as we are challenged – each in a different way. We never truly realize how precious time is and the essence of each soul we touch in the midst of our journey here on earth. Each moment is precious in its unique way, just like our spirit that’s reborn again and starting new on...

As I was listening to the president give his speech on the country's economy last week, I was simultaneously trying to balance my checkbook. Math was never my strong suit. Oddly enough, my checkbook balance is never the same as the balance on the statement from the bank. My bank's haughty assumption is that they are right and I am wrong. Given the money I am paying my bank through all of the miscellaneous fees, I should not have to balance my checkbook. That should be a service gladly rendered by my financial institution....

The Bible makes it very clear what being a Christian is about, but for new believers, it’s important to explain the qualities that come with being a Christian. Apostle Paul understood this, and used his life to share what being a Christian means with King Agrippa, a Hebrew King, and Festus, a Roman pro-counsel in Acts 26. He shared how he was headed towards Damascus under the authority and commission of the chief priests. He also shared how he saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around him and his c... Full story

In John 6, we find a well-known passage of the disciples caught in a storm on the Sea of Galilee. Prior to this incident, Jesus had spent time with the multitude, teaching them. However, when the crowds wanted to make Him king, Jesus sent the people away. Jesus wanted to climb a nearby mountain to be alone and in prayer, so sent his men ahead of him on a boat to the other side of the nearby sea. Being God, Jesus was aware of the impending situation that the disciples would...
