K.B. Gressitt Special to the Village News T. The best part about "Tenderly, the Rosemary Clooney Musical" is intermission. A long-time fan of Ms. Clooney's musical accomplishments, I was disappointed to watch her personal and professional life torn to shreds. The too long, over-dramatized history of Ms. Clooney's singing career was written by the acclaimed writing team of Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Freidman. No doubt, they were paid by the word - otherwise this show would have been a single-90-minute-one-act play.... Full story

It is a triumph! The very idea of theater is captured in this one-man show echoing a weekend in the life of famous painter Pablo Picasso. In a personal and moving performance, Herbert Siguenza is a tour de' force. It is his intimate portrayal that brings the man to life. Siguenza honors himself while paying tribute to the artist. Espectrolarial! Developing the work throughout the years, resident artist/writer/performer Siguenza is based downtown at the San Diego Rep. This... Full story
In 2017 Styx released their album The Mission, which is the band's most recent album and their first since 2005. The theme of The Mission is a mission to outer space, but Styx also had a mission July 26 when the band played at Pala Casino's Palomar Starlight Theater. That mission was to satisfy the audience, and Styx accomplished its mission. Styx performed 15 songs during their 90 minutes onstage, not including the snippet from Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" keyboardist Lawrence Gowan played and sang after his keyboard solo...

Name recognition is the draw for this current production at The Old Globe's Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre in Balboa Park. Steve Martin debuted on The Smothers Brothers TV show which ran 1967-1969. His quirky physical humor coupled with a perverse manifestation of everyday occurrences, reeked of irreverence and an unmitigated disrespect for societal mores became his comedic niche. Some might say genius. Case in point, in Martin's first film "The Jerk" he plays an... Full story
