Once again, there was nothing worthy of my rebuttal last week, so I’ll take this opportunity to tell you about my on-going bout with long Covid. I contracted Covid-19 fairly early-on – July 2020. I was virtually asymptomatic, so I didn’t realize I had had it until after the long Covid set in. The first symptom was brain fog, though I didn’t know then that it was a symptom. But the next symptom, in August that year, got my attention. I lost my sense of taste and smell, and my appetite, completely. With my loss of appetit... Full story
John, you misplace opinion and fact. You state your opinion as fact much of the time as you did in the last paragraph of your latest letter to the editor. Unfortunately, I do not think you recognize any difference if you are stating it. You are so enamored with your own thoughts, beliefs and intellect that you believe there is no chance that you might be wrong about anything. It must be almost Godlike to entertain such beliefs and to dispense the same from on high to the vast uneducated multitude below. Obviously to be... Full story
The San Diego Union Tribune reported Feb. 13 the Fallbrook Union Elementary superintendent for 4,800 students, Candace Singh, was paid $392,519 total pay for the year 2020. The article also mentions that the Los Angeles Unified superintendent, Austin Beutner, was paid less at $343,159 to lead a 419,000 student district. How on earth could this grossly inflated salary have been allowed? What's wrong with our schools? It appears the problems start at the top. William Larsen... Full story
Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District With over 900,000 Americans and over 4,800 people locally who died with Covid, it brought tragedy and hopelessness that left a hole in our lives that will never be filled. We’ve seen challenges with child development as kids lag with two years of modified or hybrid school. Behavioral health issues increased dramatically while drug overdoses spiked. It’s very important we take a step back and learn from this historically difficult time. From this tragic, front of mind pandemic, there is a c... Full story
Juile Reeder Publisher Whether you are for mandates or against mandates has a lot to do with the information you have. Some people who only know what they hear on the nightly news, may believe that the mandates are necessary and we all need to “do our part.” They may believe that young people are in great danger and they all need to be vaccinated. Others believe we should all be wearing masks. Some people like me, because of my job, seek information daily from all over the globe. It’s important to know the stats, if the s... Full story
Dear Julie, first let me say how sorry I am that this needless atrocity has had to happen to your family. As I read your heart warming editorial about your nephew, it just broke my heart and actually brought tears to my eyes. To think that this sweet family just starting out in life will be taken down an avoidable path just makes me sick to my stomach. All in the name of wokeness. If it weren't for your professional reporting on these experimental shots (not really a vaccine), we would never get to hear the truth about your... Full story
Assemblymember Marie Waldron AD-75 February is American Heart Month, and this year Feb. 4 was National Wear Red Day, encouraging people to wear red to help raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases. Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of death for men and women, accounting for approximately one out of every three deaths nationwide. Among women, cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer, with one death almost every 80 seconds. An estimated 44 million women in the United States are affected by... Full story
Julie Reeder Publisher Last week, in protest, 45 students refused to wear their masks at Sullivan Middle School in Bonsall. Thirteen year old Harrison Jones decided not to continue wearing his mask after seeing Governor Newsom at the televised basketball game maskless, in a stadium with tens of thousands of maskless people, including immunocompromised person Magic Johnson. Harrison has already had Covid, according to his mom, so he’s one of the safest people to be around with his natural immunity. According to Lindsey J... Full story
Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District We are extremely fortunate to live in such a wonderful county, filled with beauty that is unimaginable unless you see it in person. With that beauty comes responsibility, especially for our coastline. This week, I wanted to share some of the accomplishments we’ve had in North County and talk about what I’m focused on when it comes to protecting our coastline. In 2019, I led the effort to oppose offshore oil drilling and sent a letter to the federal government to reject any proposal that wou... Full story
I’ve never sent letters or comments to any news media in my life, but this article warranted it. I have been following the science on COVID-19 from the beginning. I’m what they call a “long hauler” and recently recovered from Omicron. I am against the vaccine mandate, and also the mask mandate, because from the beginning I felt they didn’t work since everyone was still getting infected. Science is now proving me right. What I wasn’t aware of was the Remdesivir treatment mandated by Anthony Fauci in all hospitals. This is an... Full story
Elizabeth Youngman-Westphal Special to the Village News It is just a few days away “when every foul (fool) cometh ther to choose his mate,” Chaucer, “Parliament of Foules,” ca 1370. Love abounds as Valentine’s Day approaches. For instance, when Bill Shakespeare got into the love game at the end of the 1500’s, he laid it down with “if music be the food of love, play on” in “Twelfth Night”. Though later in the next century, and not to be out done, Francois VI, Duc de La Rochefoucauld, Prince de Marcillac, noted for his witty... Full story
Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District Last week, I shared some successes and my vision for 2022, when it comes to behavioral health. This week, I want to share some of the accomplishments we've had in North County and talk about what I'm focused on when it comes to fire safety. We have been fortunate in San Diego County to avoid major wildfires over the past few years, but we know risk in this region is constant. That is why we have made major improvements to evacuation routes and pre-fire strategies. Prevention is key, and we... Full story
For years now and especially in the past two, I have heard many caring people express great concern for the quality of education of the children of current and future generations. While most teachers are doing a phenomenal job with the limited resources and overwhelming challenges they face today, when it comes to educating our kids, the system in which they work is often broken. This is not a Democrat or Republican party issue. This is a parent issue that crosses all party lines. Many people are now aware of this and asking... Full story
Did you happen to catch Biden's first press conference this year? As usual, Joe was full of piss and vinegar, but then we know he has a penchant for hyperbolic rants. You may remember his admonishment of a young co-ed calling her a "Dog-faced pony soldier!" Or the classic invective he hurled at a portly senior citizen challenging him to a push-up contest and referring to him as "Fatty!" Very classy, Joey, and they called Trump a bully! But this time, his unhinged outbursts were directed at his favorite target, Republicans.... Full story
The controversy concerning so-called Permanent Road Division Zones within the County of San Diego needs to be addressed in a more permanent and equitable way. The problems associated with the De Luz area recently are just a portent of the future. To focus on Fallbrook and North County will give us a point of reference on how badly these old archaic agreements serve the residents of the community. Many of us that have lived for decades in the area have had very little information concerning these systems to maintain what the... Full story
Thank you for telling us your former profession, because it speaks volumes. Thank goodness you are retired, and no longer indoctrinating students with absurd conclusions based on shocking ignorance. Repeating the battle cry of the DNC “Ensure every vote is counted,” (no matter how many we make up,) means you don’t care how many are illegal ballots. Which means you support voter fraud. Which of course renders your whole letter fraudulent. Or did you think we were all too stupid to catch that? Number 1, there are no “Jim... Full story
Recently one of my neighbors has been flying a large blue and white flag in front of their house emblazoned with the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon.” This, as most know, is a coded obscenity, an upraised middle finger aimed at the President and at those who voted for him. Fallbrook is strengthened by the civic pride of its residents and the engagement of its many volunteer organizations. All of us enjoy a high degree of mutual respect despite differing origins and varying political, religious or other views. This kind of gestu... Full story
Assemblymember Marie Waldron AD-75 Last week, Assembly Bill 1400, establishing state-run healthcare for all Californians, crashed and burned in the Assembly. Opposition was widespread from all sectors of the healthcare field and citizens. There were several reasons for this, including the astronomical costs. The entire state budget is $262 billion, and cost estimates to provide healthcare for 40 million Californians range up to $400 billion more. What about the unelected 9-member board running the program? Could an... Full story

Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District Last week, I shared some successes and my vision for 2022, when it comes to public safety. This week, I want to share some of the accomplishments we've had in North County and talk about what I'm focused on when it comes to behavioral health! Behavioral health is a major issue that continues to grow during COVID-19. We’ve all seen people on the side of the street or know of friends or family members in crisis in need of help and, unfortunately, North County has been under-resourced. I'm p... Full story
Over the past week or so, we have experienced five AT&T landline telephone outages at our home in Fallbrook. The fifth outage occurred this morning, Friday, Jan. 28. No dial tone on either of our two telephone lines. In each previous case, AT&T said it was their fault, not ours. We were first told by AT&T that there was a bad “line card” that took out six lines, then later told that many more lines were impacted by other equipment problems at a distance, so the scope of the ongoing problem is unknown. We live near the corner... Full story
Assemblymember Marie Waldron AD-75 The national blood shortage has reached our region, and the situation is critical for many local hospitals. While January has been designated National Blood Donor Month for over 50 years, people have not been stepping up to donate blood and maintain badly needed supplies as they have in the past. The San Diego Blood Bank has reported that donations have dropped significantly during the COVID crises, even though donating blood is completely safe. One contributing factor involves treatments... It appears that the United States has divided itself into two distinct classes and neither wishes to acknowledge that the opinions and beliefs of the other side are true or matter or are worthy of consideration at any time. I think the so-called “Main Street Press” has fostered this divide and it started with the demise of Nixon and his dirty tricks and audio tapes that led to his resignation. I am old enough to remember how the press treated Ronald Reagan as basically a mental lightweight not worthy of the office. The press... Full story
My, such outrage! Misplaced, of course. Yes, there are many people struggling to make ends meet, and some live in Fallbrook. But the majority here are able to pay their bills and still have discretionary funds to pay for at least some of their wants. And it is those to whom I speak. I certainly wasn’t proposing that anyone sell their first-born in order to buy a water flosser. Concerning the “brilliant” letter by Myers: I failed to see any luster. He said he deals only in facts. But he also said “The CDC will not address immu... Full story
Elizabeth Youngman-Westphal Special to The Village News In this new year, here are some things worth sharing. Life is a one act play. You need to enjoy it as it comes. That is why we celebrate birthdays. Eat dessert first. Believe in yourself. After all, if what you want is easy – everybody would be doing it. Follow your heart and you will find happiness. Say “thank you” often after receiving gifts. It may be hard at first, but practice will make it easier. Then write a note expressing your appreciation. Be natural in your... Full story
