The Biden administration has brought shame on the United States of America. An impeachment of Joe Biden alone would not be enough, it should be the whole crew, Biden, Harris, Blinken, Milley and Austin. I might add Pelosi, Schumer, the squad and I'm sure many others in the swamp, including the RINOS (Republicans in name only), Romney (whom I am distressed to say I voted for), Murkowski, Cheney and Collins. So many need to be held accountable. I pray they will. The Afghan debacle, leaving Americans and Afghan allies and... Full story
Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District Power safety power shut offs can wreak havoc on the backcountry, especially on evacuation routes. As we head into fire season, many people will have their power shutoff due to high winds and fire danger. Back in March, Supervisor Joel Anderson and I presented a Board Letter after hearing about problems associated with PSPS events. This item passed with unanimous support and directed the chief administrative officer to identify gaps in Public Safety Power Shutdown mitigation and... Full story
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a warranty on everything in life? I for one, would love a warranty on health, or relationships. I suppose one could say that generally we all have a warranty on health. The warranty just runs out at different times for every individual. The warranty on health could be deemed to be invalid if an individual intentionally does things to undermine their health. A warranty on relationships would be awesome if it meant that a service could be p... Full story
Assemblymember Marie Waldron SD-75 Reality is setting in for the high-speed rail project. Cost overruns, construction delays and false promises may have finally doomed the project. In 2008, voters passed Prop. 1A, a $9.5 billion bond measure to help finance high-speed rail. Promises included keeping costs under $40 billion, the state’s maximum investment would be 30%, funding from federal, private and local sources would pay the rest. Additional taxpayer subsidies were prohibited, and construction could not begin until all r... Full story
Recently my husband asked me if my new pink lace ballet slippers were “comfortable?” Blink. Blink. “Pardon me?” I replied. As you might imagine, I am still laughing myself into hiccups. Was there ever a pair of pretty lady’s shoes designed for comfort? Certainly, none I ever bought. Actually, thinking back, I forgot. There were two times. The first time I purchased sensible footwear was when I moved from California to work in New Jersey. Just days before a record snowfall in January 1995, I bought a pair of black-lac... Full story
In the last 15 years, the State of California has adopted key legislative bills that address the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Specifically, Assembly Bill 32 (AB 32, 2006) sets a statewide GHG reduction target to return to the 1990 emissions level by the year 2020. In addition, in 2008, California adopted SB 375 which specifically addresses emissions from transportation. SB 375 directs California's Metropolitan Planning Organizations to meet GHG emission reduction... Full story
Julie Reeder Publisher I used to produce a radio show on KOGO AM600 in the 90s. Occasionally I was the guest host because the show's host, Mason Weaver, had another engagement. On one of those shows, I interviewed a father in Pennsylvania, if I remember correctly. I'll never forget the topic. They were doing vaginal exams of the student girls ages 11 and 12 without any parental consent or warning. It was "for the health of the girls." It didn't take long for parents to get tha... Joseph Reagan Wreaths Across America Over the past few days, I have had an opportunity to chat with several fellow veterans, service members, military family members, and Gold Star families. It is beyond the obvious in saying that the past few days have been extraordinarily difficult for those with a personal connection to our mission in Afghanistan. My wife Tiffany and I are no different. Earlier this week, a CNN reporter broadcast from a base in Andar, Afghanistan – this was a base that my soldiers and I built, it’s the bas... Full story
Jefferson warned us of the excesses of Federalism, favoring individual and states' rights over Federalism. He was right, of course, but look how far we have strayed from his vision. Mask mandates, sequester edicts, and now the push for mandatory Covid-19 vaccines. Where does it all end? The authoritarian excesses of today's Democratic Party are without limits and regard to the civil rights of Americans. This, of course, is contrary to the expressed intent of the Constitution and the underlying principles of Jeffersonian...
To all Democratic and Independent voters: it’s up to us to keep California blue. And it couldn’t be any easier, since every voter is receiving a mail-in ballot. If you haven’t already voted, simply mark the “No” option, put the ballot in the return envelope, sign (your registered name), and date it, and drop it in the mail promptly. No stamp required. To all Republican voters, I suggest following the above procedure as well. I understand you had concerns earlier. What our governor asked was for us to consider our responsib... Full story
Assemblymember Marie Waldron SD-75 Approximately 187,000 Californians are diagnosed with cancer each year. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in our state, exceeded only by heart disease. Unfortunately, in many underserved areas there is a disconnect between recent medical advances and patient access to lifesaving quality care. There are hundreds of different types of cancer, requiring a vast array of complex treatments. Increasingly, cancer care is dependent on genetic and genomic testing individualized for each... I'm writing this to help residents who wonder how they would go about addressing street light outages in Fallbrook, and who to call to report them. Our community residents can call 877-684-8000. They can also go to https://www.4sconnect.com/report-street-light-outages/ and report the outages online. The last time I checked, there were over 12 lights that had burned out, on Mission, Main, and the side streets I take. Thank you! Take it upon yourself to check your street lights headed home. Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District For many, the reason they move to San Diego’s unincorporated area is to be away from the intensity of city living. They want to be away from the noise, the hustle and bustle and surrounded by the beauty of our region. They certainly don’t want some of the worst criminals/individuals placed in their neighborhood. Unfortunately, that is happening more and more, with the State of California releasing Sexually Violent Predators back out into society. There was some good news this week with the... Full story
Elizabeth Youngman Westphal Special to the Village News This morning started out like every other morning. It’s another bad hair day. As it is, I’m in the transition between hairstyles; consequently, every day is a bad hair day. You know what I’m talkin’ about. Do I hear a big “amen”? The back is getting longer but not the top since I keep hacking at the sides and top to get some lift. All the same, my hair continues to collect more in my brush than on the top of my head. Plus, it’s getting so thin it feels like each hair mus... Full story
In real estate, we try to anticipate everything that could impact a transaction. The best way to stave off any unexpected discovery is through full disclosure by the seller of everything they know about the property that could affect the value and desirability of the property. As I’ve mentioned recently, disclosure by the seller is one key to a smooth transaction. There are also reports that sellers provide to the buyers which provide information from third parties that add a... Full story
To Mr. Lewis: Thank you for your opinion. But here are the facts. The following 11 states felt that the ability to own slaves was important enough to them to warrant seceding from the Union: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. With the exception of Georgia and Virginia, they are solid red Republican states. Additionally, “Dixie” is still an anthem there and truly “old times there are not forgotten.” Also, Mr. Lewis, did you not know th... Full story
Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District As the Delta variant starts to encompass San Diego County and our case numbers rise, I think it’s important to take a step back and look at the data in hopes of returning to normal. Prior to my time on the Board of Supervisors, I was an airline pilot and an engineer and in all my training I looked at data and evaluated it. As cases rise again, it’s time to look at the data. Vaccines work well at protecting against COVID-19, including reducing the severity of symptoms that can be caused by t... Full story
Former Rep. Bob Barr Daily Caller In the aftermath of the Taliban’s victory over the U.S.-backed Afghan government and military and as the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks is close upon us, one would think that the Department of Homeland Security might be more worried about Islamic extremist attacks than about COVID lockdown opponents and critics of Biden’s 2020 election victory. Not so. According to a DHS National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin that is effective until Nov. 11, extremists who “may seek to ex... Full story
A few weeks ago in late July, our oldest son was running with his cross-country team from Fallbrook High School. He took a different route and was running along Stage Coach Lane when he came across a family searching for two of their dogs. They asked him if he’d seen the dogs and described them to him. A few blocks later he encountered one of the dogs and coaxed it back to its family who was very grateful. Upon resuming his run, he later came across the other dog in the road. He again coaxed the dog back to the family, who w... Full story
Assemblymember Marie Waldron AD-75 During California’s disastrous 2020 fire season, almost 4.2 million acres burned. Tragically, 33 people died, thousands of homes were lost, and an estimated 112 million metric tons of carbon dioxide were released into the atmosphere. Now we’re in the second year of a drought and the 2021 fire season has begun. The Dixie Fire is raging across the Northern Sierras and Cascades, and the Concord Fire, southwest of Lake Tahoe, has ravaged the community of Grizzly Flats. An oversight hearing in th... Full story
Mr. Terrell responded to a letter from July 22 about the sad state of the current Democratic party. That letter is, he says, "entirely fiction." But in typical leftist fashion, insults have to follow: the letter writer is "ignorant" and "has totally discredited himself." What triggered Terrell so? It was, as the author stated, the Democratic party's direct connection to slavery, resistance to abolishing slavery, opposition to emancipation. Terrell then makes the absurd claim that in 1860, pro-slavery Southern Democrats moved... Full story
Julie Reeder Publisher There is a lot of uncertainty and fear right now. There’s a lot to be confused about and there’s a lot to be angry about. In the middle of it all, I am encouraged that so many citizens are taking the time and interest to participate in local government. That is the silver lining, however we need to keep a level of civility. Local city council and school board meetings have seen more participation than I’ve seen in a long time which I think is great. I would encourage everyone to remember to keep their... Full story
Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th district Over the past month, you’ve probably read or heard me talk about SANDAG’s new transportation plan. SANDAG, which is in charge of allocating the local tax dollars for all major transportation projects in San Diego, will soon be voting on whether to approve a $163 billion project, much of which focuses on Transit and public transportation. I believe it’s extremely important San Diegans know the details of this plan, including the proposed ‘road charge’ which would be a tax for every mil... Full story
Assemblymember Marie Waldron AD-75 I have long been an advocate for expanded access to mental health care as a way to restore lives and to save taxpayer dollars by reducing costs associated with treatment, along with many related societal costs including homelessness and public safety. The bill closes loopholes in current law by ensuring that HMOs and health insurers provide patients with timely follow-up care, avoiding lengthy d... Full story
I’ve been privileged to watch the impact volunteers have had in making Fallbrook the caring community that it is known for. For the past five years, I’ve witnessed it firsthand as a member of the board of the Fallbrook Food Pantry. My wife Carolyn is executive... Full story
