    Not good enough

Supervisor Jim Desmond Fifth District|Updated Oct 2, 2020

A celebration is not in order. Even though San Diego County barely missed dropping into the purple tier, there is no cause for celebrating. There is no business plan for a gym to operate at 10% capacity. There is no business plan for a restaurant to operate at 25% capacity. We cannot continue to have 200,000 San Diegans out of work. As I drive around San Diego County, I see more and more businesses closing their doors. I see the people and the businesses which make up San...

    Ideas have consequences

    Julie Reeder, Publisher|Updated Oct 2, 2020

I'm sure someone is reading and thinking, "Another piece on critical race theory?" We will do at least two more. I've had many people comment or message me saying they appreciate that I'm talking about it because it's helped them to understand what's going on. I'm sure many people hadn't heard of it until the president banned it from federal agencies. I'm also being contacted by people who are immigrants or who travel extensively. They are shaking their heads trying to figure...

    Historic mental health advances

    Assemblymember Marie Waldron AD-75 R|Updated Oct 2, 2020

This session, I am honored to be recognized as a "Mental Health Super Hero" by the Steinberg Institute because of my work on mental health policy, advancing mental health parity to physical health and working to expand access to care. In addition, I supported nine bi-partisan bills, which were all forwarded to the Governor for his signature. I co-authored three of these bills, signed by the Governor on Sept. 25. Senate Bill 855 (Wiener) expands Californians' ability to obtain...

  • Re: 'There Are No 'Warriors' in Fallbrook' [Village News, Letter, 9/17/20]

    Arlene Anderson|Updated Oct 1, 2020

Who is Anson Black Calf? He certainly doesn't live in Fallbrook or represent Fallbrook and has quite the internet history. Google his name. So, in regards to there being no “Warriors in Fallbrook” you are mistaken. There was a meeting with the school and the Pala tribe about the use of the native American mascots. Our school chose the Warriors as an honor to our local indigenous people back in the 30s when grandpa was going to Fallbrook High School and the school got big enough to have athletic teams to compete. There was...

  • Re: 'How radical historian's revisionism and lies led to 2020's unrest' [Village News, Letter, 9/24/20]

    Jim Boyd|Updated Oct 1, 2020

Love the Daily Signal article. Thanks for continuing to publish articles that help explain how the country has been hijacked with Critical Race Theory and other Critical Theory teaching. Unfortunately, we are now seeing many of those brainwashed folks out burning and rioting in the belief that they are doing something good. Keep it up. As for John Terrell’s belief that Democrats are real problem solvers – if that were true, our Sacramento Democrat Super Majority should have turned our state into Utopia by now. By the way...

    Lara Farrell|Updated Oct 1, 2020

I look to the East to where I have been, what I have done, what I have seen Time...as it was, as when it began distant, hazy, elusive I look to the West to where I am going, what I will do, what I will see Time...as it will be, as when it ends far-reaching, vague, uncertain I look to the South to where I am, what I am doing, what I see Time...as it is, here and now tangible, changing, real I look to the North To where my Hope comes from, beauty unimaginable Timeless...as it has always been everlasting, infinite… G...

No, Democrats don’t believe that the government will solve all problems. However, we do need to vote into office those best qualified to solve the problems the government is best qualified to solve and there are many. If Reagan were here today, he would be correct in saying government is the problem. Other than that, what I remember about Reagan is that he almost tripled the National Debt in his effort to “reduce” government spending. The author of the subject letter says: “Think, people, think!” The author should also advi... Full story

  • What can we do about wildfires?

    Assemblymember Marie Waldron, AD-75 R|Updated Sep 23, 2020

This year, devastation from California’s wildfires is at record levels of destruction – about 3.4 million acres already burned! We have some of the toughest environmental standards in the nation, but our success in reducing greenhouse gas emissions is wiped out by tons of carbon dioxide spewed into the atmosphere by these fires. The Legislature recently passed legislation to help prevent wildfires and deal with their aftermath. Two years ago, I supported a bipartisan plan wit... Full story

  • 6 degrees of separation

    Ruth Noyes|Updated Sep 23, 2020

I have heard it said only six people stand between you and anyone else on earth. I asked the following question here with a different topic over 10 years ago and received quite a response. I am looking forward to the same response amount today. Now then, my question: “Do you know anyone who rents a storage unit at Citrus Plaza here in Fallbrook?” Specifically, I am looking for the person who rented Unit 177 after Aug. 10, 2020, and/or anyone who has anything they’d like to share about this facility. You can email me at: r... Full story

  • How leftists' critical race theory poisons our discussion of racism

    Eleanor Krasne|Updated Sep 23, 2020

Eleanor Krasne / @EllieKrasne I recently revived my Instagram account in an attempt to kill time during the COVID-19 lockdown. Until three weeks ago, my Instagram feed was filled with cooking photos, quarantine home projects and the occasional funny meme. But shortly after George Floyd’s horrifying May 25 killing, my Instagram feed changed course and was filled with commentary on police brutality and race relations. I’m glad that those I follow on Instagram are speaking out about race relations and abuse at the hands of polic... Full story

  • Vote No on Proposition 15

    Bob Newkirk|Updated Sep 23, 2020

Vote No on Proposition 15 Proposition 15 is the worst idea known to man – at least this year. We are being asked to vote for an $11 billion increase in taxes on California businesses. In the middle of a pandemic that has caused massive job losses, shuttered restaurants and stores, and squeezed businesses that are currently struggling with government-ordered shutdowns, we are being asked to burden California businesses with a new, massive tax increase. Higher prices for consumers will undoubtedly occur if this thing passes. I... Full story

  • Dulin Road would be an unsafe entry to the park

    Jack McKee|Updated Sep 23, 2020

Most residents of Fallbrook and Bonsall are aware of a new county regional park that is soon to be built. This new park, Rio Prado Park, will have many sports facilities, including soccer fields and baseball diamonds. This park will attract families from all over the region and will add a quality of life to our area. However, a problem exists. The proposed plan for the main entrance to this new county regional park is Dulin Road. What are they thinking? Dulin Road goes right through a quiet, peaceful community of senior...

  • Democrats are for tolerance, free speech and diversity

    Randy Jones|Updated Sep 23, 2020

Then why can’t I wear a Trump hat, put a Trump sticker on my car or put a Trump sign on my front lawn? Because, I would be subject to bodily harm, being yelled at or hassled in a restaurant, or I’d have my car keyed or my home fire bombed. If I try to defend myself, I will be the one thrown in jail. What a country. Randy Jones... Full story

  • Trying to reopen businesses

Supervisor Jim Desmond, Fifth District|Updated Sep 23, 2020

San Diego has been backed into a corner with unreasonable expectations. The state's new, color coded criteria makes it impossible for San Diego County to ever completely open. Last week, I made a motion at the Board of Supervisors meeting for the county to no longer enforce whether businesses should be open or closed. I still believe that we should enforce the health and safety protocols, but let the state enforce their closure requirements. Unfortunately, my motion didn’t r... Full story

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Environmental Attorney and Founder of Childrens Health Defense|Updated Sep 22, 2020

Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death robs vaccine safety advocates of one of their SCOTUS champions. The other is Sonia Sotomayor. In 2015, RBG joined Sotomayor in a withering dissent of Judge Scalia’s historic decision in Bruesewitz v. Wyeth. Scalia and his corporatist brethren interpreted the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 (NCVIA) to shield Big Pharma with full immunity from liability for vaccine injuries. Their decision removed all incentives for pharmaceutical corporations to make vaccines safe, and Americans for...

I am not voting for Trump – for all the reasons you listed as your reasons to vote for him. Perhaps not the ‘murder’ thing. If you know any Democrats who are murderers or are plotting murder, you should call the police. I have a few more reasons, though. By voting for Biden and Harris, I also get: A highly developed sense of empathy and ethics. A history of service to others before self. A belief in the checks and balances the constitution put in place, and which are currently under severe strain. I get the ability to tell... Full story

  • Now it's up to the governor

    Assemblymember Marie Waldron, AD-75 R|Updated Sep 19, 2020

With the final adjournment of the Legislature Monday, Aug. 31, hundreds of bills were forwarded to the governor, who now has until Wednesday, Sept. 30, to decide their fate. There’s often lots of controversy in Sacramento, but contrary to what may be a common impression, many bills pass with overwhelming support from both parties. This session was no different. For example, we passed Assembly Bill 1710, written by Assemblymember Jim Wood, D-Santa Rosa, to allow pharmacists t... Full story

  • Re: 'Reparations, systemic racism and the Democratic Party' [Village News, Letter, 9/10/20]

    John H. Terrell|Updated Sep 17, 2020

Trying to politicize racism is a cheap-shot and trying to rewrite history to support that position is uncalled for. That said, there’s way more than enough racism to go round. Maynard manages to go off the rails fairly quickly, invalidating his position entirely. For example, he mentions the Northern Democrats in passing, not noting how significant their influence was on the Party. The slavery issue divided the Democrats: the North Democrats stood fast – and so did the Southern Democrats, precipitating the Civil War. Ele... Full story

  • Bonsall Woman's Club champions schoolhouse restoration again

    Jennifer Leung|Updated Sep 17, 2020

This spring and summer have been a busy time for the restoration of the Bonsall Schoolhouse. The interior restoration is almost complete; work included the rebuilding of a wall, installation of beadboard, painting all the interior beadboard and refinishing/repairing the existing hardwood flooring. The only things left inside are the doors, chalkboards and baseboards, which will be completed this fall. To say that this restoration effort is only possible because of the Bonsall Woman’s Club is not overstating. The Bonsall Educa... Full story

Should anyone be confused by the following rant, please recognize these words constitute only my opinion. I started out last year writing about my adventures in exercise, which also was “my opinion.” Consequently, my birthday plans crashed when I couldn’t leave this wonderful country due to the coronavirus. Consequently, I now write this column to purge my mind of empty useless trivia, random thoughts and unsolicited opinions for which it appears I have many. As it turns out,... Full story

  • Our Republic is in peril

    Orolie Gubser|Updated Sep 17, 2020

For reasons beyond my comprehension, the Democratic party insists that the government will solve all problems for everyone, especially minorities. Ronald Reagan said that the 10 most dangerous words are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you." Government is the problem. What has happened to individual responsibility and independent thinking? Open your minds, Democrats, and see what is happening in this country to the jurisdiction of Democrat-influenced cities. Do you want to be a socialist country? I don't think... Full story

  • The hypocrisy of COVID-19 versus economy

    Supervisor Jim Desmond, 5th District|Updated Sep 17, 2020

Everyday tens of thousands of people safely shop at big box retail and grocery stores where respectful San Diego shoppers obey the mask, social distancing and sanitation protocols. Churches, museums, restaurants and the zoo are now open, but to a limited 25% capacity. Legoland, street fairs and wedding venues have yet to open while liquor stores and marijuana dispensaries operate unabated. While big box retailers thrive, many small businesses are not afforded the same... Full story

  • There Are No "Warriors" in Fallbrook

    Anson Black Calf|Updated Sep 17, 2020

Recently, my attention was caught by the energetic voice of a young woman who briefly spoke about how racism in America is “endemic, multifaceted and self-maintaining.” And that was it. The next moment it was on to some other commercial subject matter on National Public Radio. But these words echoed in my head, and I repeated them out loud so I wouldn’t forget the simplicity of their truthfulness. I was amazed at how directly they were spoken and was relieved to know that racism in its many forms was finally being publi... Full story

Let’s start with the good news. Your continued pressure has been felt in Sacramento, and some businesses are able to reopen, at least partially. I’ve talked to many of you who didn’t know if your business would be able to survive any more shutdowns. I know those in the hair and nail salon industry go through extensive safety training to receive required state licenses, and I’m glad to see that they are able to open at full capacity with appropriate safety measures. Now, he... Full story
