Gov. Gavin Newsom recently announced creation of the first-in-the-nation “Great Plates Delivered program,” which will partner with cities, counties and tribes to deliver food to older adults. The program will provide nutritious meals to older Californians who should stay home during the COVID-19 pandemic. By partnering with local restaurants struggling to stay afloat, the program keeps restaurant workers employed, and seniors stay safe at home without risking their health at... Full story
To Ms. Silvestro and Mr. Terrell, I have a request for you. Would you please give us a brief outline showing us what you would have done differently in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic if you were the President? Here's the scenario: You, as President, are told that there is a new, unknown disease/virus that is not supposed to spread from human to human but, lo and behold, it does and it is here. You have no idea what this disease was designed to do and how deadly it could be or how quickly it will spread. As you are...
I would like to make a few observations concerning our community of greater Fallbrook. The past few weeks have been a hardship on many living in our area. We naturally wish to thank all the first responders, our care givers, and all those that are working as hard as they can to get us back to normalcy. This has been the most intense event in most of the lives of the people in our community. We like to call Fallbrook the “Friendly village,” but that moniker is only as good as the reality of the situation. I must confess that I... Full story

Gov. Gavin Newsom recently created the California Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery to get the economy growing again as quickly and safely as possible. As Assembly Minority Leader and a small-business owner, I was honored to be selected as a member of this critical team. The coronavirus response has devastated California’s economy, including thousands of small businesses that employ millions. We slammed the brakes on the world’s fifth largest economy, and the most vul...
Yes, it seems fairly certain that China is indeed the source of the pandemic, and their actions to subvert and suppress vital information borders on the criminal; that situation may be dealt with in the future. Yes, agreed that manufacturing of critical products should stop being outsourced to China and elsewhere; bring the industries home and pay decent wages to American workers. No, President Donald Trump is not responsible for the pandemic; he is, however, responsible for the federal government’s response and actions in d... Full story
There is no doubt that COVID-19 originated in China and that China was not forthcoming about it. The World Health Organization naively accepted China’s statements and Jan. 14 said: “Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus (aka COVID-19).” Regardless, President Donald Trump is 100% responsible for America’s botched response to this terrible pandemic. First, it was naive in the extreme for Trump to accept China’s... Full story
I have a question. Why do liberals always go to the extreme with their attacks and single case scenarios? While many material things are valuable to have, they aren’t essential to live, pharmaceuticals and medicines are. We should not be relying on China for the ingredients for our medication manufacturing and held hostage to their threats of withholding them. Talk about letting Americans die. I realize we have become nonchalant and naive about buying cheap products, but you forgot to mention needless governmental meddling a... Full story
Thank you, San Diego County. The sacrifices you’ve made are extensive, and there has been a willingness for you to do what was necessary to stay inside. We are now at a crossroads when it comes to COVID-19. We must decide the best course for the entire population. At these crossroads, we see despair and economic devastation from the virus. One of the biggest things we have learned over the past month is how to combat the virus. Washing your hands for 20 seconds works; s... Full story

National emergencies bring out the best in us as Americans always step up to help those in need. During this coronavirus pandemic, individuals, nonprofit organizations and businesses are answering the call for help. In our Assembly District 75, Abbott Laboratories, with a major facility in Temecula, is deeply involved in the medical response to the pandemic. Abbott has developed tests that can detect the disease in just a few minutes and recently announced the launch of a new... Full story
Much has been made by the media and by Democratic lawmakers blaming President Donald Trump for the coronavirus. But who’s really to blame for the pandemic? Trump, the wet markets, a virology lab in Wuhan, the Chinese government or perhaps there is something sinister behind the outbreak? In December 2019 and well into mid-January 2020, we were told by the Chinese government and by the World Health Organization that the virus started in a wet market in Wuhan, China. They reported the horseshoe bats in the wet market were the c... Full story
While we continue to stay at home and do a great job flattening the curve, I have a favor to ask. I want to hear from business owners. San Diego County knows many businesses are on the brink of going under, and we are trying to do all we can to help them. We’ve created a website, https://www.SanDiegoBackToWork.com, and are asking for your ideas in opening our economy back up. Your input on how the county can help get businesses open is important. While I’m not a public hea... Full story
Grocery shopping one day a week has been my routine for years. The unhurried process that allowed time to chat with friends, investigate a display of exotic cheeses or read the labels on new products introduced by a celebrity TV chef was enjoyable. In the time of COVID-19, the once pleasurable experience has changed. Before I get out of my car in the parking lot, I put on my facemask and my disposable gloves. Since cloth grocery bags are not allowed in the store, I leave them in the car. When I enter the store in my mask, I... Full story
One of my favorite memes of over the past month reads: “I guess we’re about to find out which meetings could have been emails after all.” The arrival of the COVID-19 novel virus brought the United States to a standstill, millions of Americans are likely spending more time at home over the past 30 days than they have over the past three years. Thousands and thousands of people are fighting for their lives, mostly alone, in a hospital filled with people wearing only masks, unable to show a smile with anything but their eyes.... Full story
Boy, where do I start with this one? Ms. Miller seems to conflate her personal thought that “the majority of the people drive a better car than ‘I do’ yet have zero savings.” I wonder where she gets this idea? I truly doubt the majority of people with no savings are driving a better car than her, unless she is driving at least a 10-year-old car worth about $2,500. Secondly, she may have a year-plus of savings, but I will bet dollars to doughnuts that she more than likely wasn’t paying an average of $12,000 per year for healt... Full story
These times can be overwhelming. While we love our homes, being forced to stay there for extended periods causes stress, anxiety and depression. We are worried about our income, our jobs, our children’s education, our health and our future. So how do we cope with this new and very unreal lifestyle that the coronavirus has forced upon us? Remember, we are all in this together, and help is available. While we must physically isolate ourselves in order to help rein in the v... Full story

I am informed that one of the first coronavirus symptoms to show up is difficulty holding one’s breath. Each morning when I wake up, I take a deep breath and hold it for about 30 seconds. Not experiencing any difficulty or comfortability doing this exercise is confirmation that I have not contracted the virus. I don’t want anyone around me – this includes the whole town of Fallbrook – to contract the virus either, so I am humbly making the following requests: Stay home whenever possible and wear facial covering and practic... Please read my Village News opinion piece dated March 5. I am a resident in Rancho Monserate. I have strong feelings and a will to live. I believe if there is a wildfire like the Lilac Fire in 2018 that many lives will be lost. I believe there are ways to prevent the loss of lives and animals. Here are more bullet points that I have researched in needing another entrance and exit besides Dulin Road: How many individuals on these committees have actually come to Rancho Monserate and visually looked at Dulin Road and really... I wrote this message in response to our eldest daughter as she begins finishing up this school year at home for our normally public-school going grandchildren. What had been expected to be a fun filled end of the year with field trips, parties and gifts for the teacher, now has turned upside down for the parents and children around our country and the world. My message was meant to encourage her. I hope it may encourage others. You know, I keep remembering Grandma Browne’s stories of growing up at the end of the depression, a... Full story
SAN DIEGO COUNTY – San Diego County Gun Owners, a political action committee promoting Second Amendment rights, is applauding recent federal guidelines that have classified gun shop retailers as essential businesses to remain open during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown. “Despite what you might be hearing from overreaching, power-hungry politicians, gun shops are protected by the federal government and are absolutely deemed essential,” Michael Schwartz, executive director of SDCGO, said. “This virus pandemonium has uncover... This is a response to some of the things addressed by Diana Miller in her letter. Bringing back factories from offshore is a great idea. To do that will require a totally new way of thinking about our culture and the way we live. For many years, since at least after World War II, the people of the U.S. have wanted to be the highest paid workers in the world with the best benefits. We also want to buy a lot of “stuff” at the lowest possible prices. Business, doing what it does best, goes off shore to get the “stuff” that we... Full story
Congratulations to Dr. James Veltmeyer for a brilliant, thoughtful, rational and logical letter; a rarity in this age of panic and insanity. Bravo. Veltmeyer has my vote to stand with the task force. I might add, perhaps there is more to this pandemic than meets the eye? Mary Rayes... Full story
Fifth District We are in this fight together. While COVID-19 is the hidden enemy, we have seen the toll it’s taken upon our entire county. I mentioned this last week, but it’s just as true today.
