  • RE: Mr. Stagg's letter and guns

    Updated Nov 7, 2024

Mr. Stagg is correct in quoting Thomas Jefferson as saying: “No free man shall ever be disbarred from the use of arms.” But remember, Jefferson was speaking in the context of a group force, that is, a militia, as clearly stated in the Second Amendment. Mr. Stagg also states that the people need guns to protect themselves from tyranny in Government. Note that he refers to people, not person, indicating it is a group effort, again, a militia. Otherwise, try to envision one man with a gun bringing down a tyrannical gov... Full story

  • Agree with Sandra Forrest

    Updated Nov 7, 2024

I completely agree with Sandra Forrest’s sentiments regarding the direction the Village News is taking. I like to have an ear to the community and so have subscribed to the paper the last 8 years that I’ve lived here. It’s bad enough that Julie Reeder uses questionable sources and discredited professionals to make her points and offers what I consider sometimes dangerous advice. Ms. Wesphal went from laid back life observer to biased conspiracy theorist with her “Specials.” Having a microphone to the community means you... Full story

  • To question the status quo is deeply American

    Updated Nov 7, 2024

RE: Sandra Forrest and Ron Ebel’s accusations against me I do not feel compelled to defend every contributor to this paper, whether it be Ms. Wesphal or Mr. Terrell. However, I will address the two recent letters aimed at me, which some might label as hate speech due to their negative and personal nature. Despite that, I value free speech—even when it targets me—because it strengthens our ability to engage in meaningful dialogue. I stand by my research and my work, and if I am incorrect on any matter, then it is to our benef... Full story

  • EXPOSED: Wealthy members at CARB look down from their ivory tower as they jack up gas prices 65 cents per gallon

    Senator Brian W. Jones, 40th Senate District|Updated Nov 7, 2024

SACRAMENTO, CA - Like Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, the overwhelming majority of his hand-picked members of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) are wealthy and can easily handle paying more for gasoline after they hike the prices 65 per gallon on November 8. An analysis of CARB members' publicly available Statements of Economic Interests (SEIs) reveals that 10 of the 14 are considerably wealthier than the average Californian. Moreover, CARB’s Executive Officer, Steve Cliff, is a millionaire. “A Governor who lives in... Full story

  • Re: Dangers of Mislabeled THC Products

    Updated Nov 7, 2024

Governor Newsom wisely issued emergency regulations to immediately stop the sale of hemp—derived food, beverages and dietary products with THC. However, neither he nor our state legislature addressed the gaping hole in the 2018 Farm Bill that allowed the industry to exploit the health and safety of the public and youth for six years. How reassured are you that his efforts are on behalf of protecting the public and not his “legal” marijuana interests? If the Governor really cared about California residents, he would addre... Full story

  • Success at the Halloween Bash

    Updated Nov 2, 2024

Thanks to all who helped by coming out and supporting the Halloween Bash at 127 West on October 26th. Next year will be even better. My original idea in having this night was to get together, have a fun evening, and just be able to cut loose while doing something worthwhile at the same time. We did it! Made money for Fallbrook Historical Society and Mentoring for Purpose and had a great night. Faro supplied us with the venue, and the buffet he served was magnificent. I’m not telling what it was…those that were there kno... Full story

  • Federal Government's Secret Transfer of Migrants from San Diego to Arizona and Texas

Supervisor Jim Desmond, San Diego County|Updated Nov 2, 2024

Between September 2023 and June 2024, more than 155,000 migrants—predominantly single adults—were released onto the streets of San Diego County. The primary reason: Border Patrol facilities were overrun, and, by federal law, Border Patrol could not hold these individuals for more than a few days. The street releases temporarily stopped over the summer due to weather conditions, executive orders, and other factors—conveniently, just before the upcoming election. However, offici... Full story

  • Re: 'Firefighters Union Changes Endorsements'

    Updated Nov 2, 2024

After reading a letter submitted to the VN by the Fallbrook Firefighters Association (FFA) VP Ryan Lewis, I feel compelled to correct several misrepresentations. I currently serve as a Director for District 4 and I was elected in 2020, after being recruited to run by the Firefighters union. When they first recruited me, I promised to always listen to their concerns but pointed out that I would not be their puppet. They reassured me that all they hoped for was an open line of communication. In his letter Ryan states that... Full story

  • Making Change on the Planning group

    Updated Nov 2, 2024

As a member of the Planning Group, I always invite constructive feedback on our activities. Mr Mervich’s comments regarding the ‘black hole at the County Planning Department’ is indeed a concern….however, Mr, Mervich has not invented the wheel. The issue of project tracking has been a regular item of discussion at meetings of the Planning Group Chairs as well as at the full Planning Group. Mr. Mervich has not been aware of this since he has not attended meetings since his term as a prior Planning Group member expired. He has... Full story

  • Why Are Democrats and Republicans So Divided on Non Citizens Voting?

    Julie Reeder, Publisher|Updated Nov 2, 2024

As the November 5th election looms, the debate over who should have the right to vote in our elections has reached a fever pitch. At the heart of the divide is a critical issue: should noncitizens, including those who are in the U.S. illegally, have a say in our elections? Republican leadership argues vehemently against this, citing concerns over election security, while Democrat leadership continues to pass laws and file lawsuits that seem aimed at expanding the voter rolls... Full story

  • Cutting gas prices, or not

    Assemblymember Marie Waldron, 75th District|Updated Nov 2, 2024

The legislative special session called to rein in high gas prices has adjourned. A bill that supporters claim will help prevent gasoline price spikes by increasing reserves, AB X2-1, passed on a party-line vote. Unfortunately the bill, along with other measures that could be implemented soon, may have the opposite effect. The measure is aimed at preventing price spikes when refineries temporarily shut down for maintenance, creating fuel shortages and driving up prices.... Full story

    Updated Nov 2, 2024

To whomever tore down my political sign from my tree: what you did was THEFT and it tells me more about your character than politics. We in America have the right to our opinions because that is what democracy is all about. Janice Siderius... Full story

  • Money and politics in Fallbrook: What is the firefighters union really after?

    Updated Nov 2, 2024

Is anyone else fed up with the influence of money in local politics? I’m not talking about national corruption; I’m talking right here in Fallbrook. Lately, there’s been a lot of chatter on Facebook about our fire department and the firefighter’s union’s recent endorsements. Sure, the union has the right to back whichever candidates they want – but why did they endorse these particular candidates, and what are they expecting in return? Let’s get real: the union flipped its support from two incumbents to two challengers.... Full story

  • Invest in Fallbrook's future

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

FALLBROOK – Did you know that Fallbrook High School, at 70+ years old, is the county’s second oldest high school? Along with that status comes aging infrastructure. Fallbrookians have the opportunity to invest in the future of Fallbrook this election by voting yes on the BB facility bond. This bond will secure much needed funding to modernize the three local high schools, so that all students are able to reap all the benefits of a high-quality education. Measure BB enables the district to modernize, repair or replace det... Full story

  • Don't change horses mid-stream

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

Hey neighbors! Mig Gasca here. You may remember I was the Division 3 Director on the Rainbow MWD Board until last December. Thank you for the opportunity you gave me to serve the community. Thank you to the Board for keeping me on the Engineering and Operations Committee as a ratepayer. I am endorsing Julie Johnson and Cari Dale for re-election to their seats on the Board. You might ask why I’m doing this? Julie, since she began serving on the Board, has been a critical reviewer of district plans and operations. Having s... Full story

  • Shouldn't our local boards represent our community?

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

This is in reference to the Fallbrook Firefighters Association’s endorsement and subsequent, and rather sudden, rescission of support for Jeff Egkan and Ross Pike: I was always under the impression that governing board members were there to serve the community. Endorsements by Public Employee Unions do not override that fundamental concept, that supervisory boards serve the public interest, and have a fiduciary responsibility to the community. An endorsement from a public employee union is typically a statement by the u... Full story

  • Political retribution masquerading as coastal protection

    Julie Reeder, Publisher|Updated Oct 27, 2024

The California Coastal Commission’s (CCC) recent actions against Elon Musk's SpaceX follow a disturbing trend of political retribution in government, resembling what we’ve seen on the federal level. Musk, a legal immigrant who revolutionized the electric vehicle industry, faces scrutiny not for environmental concerns, but for his political views, particularly his alignment with Donald Trump. This led to a lawsuit against the CCC, with unexpected support from Governor New... Full story

  • NCFPD is apolitical

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

I encourage you to vote for North County Fire Protection District candidates Jeanette Barragan (District 1), John Van Doorn (District 4) and Mark Bartholomew (District 5). They are not incumbents, but they ought to be! They are supported by the Fallbrook Firefighters Association and a local conservative support group ‘Keep Fallbrook Free.” My name is Ken Munson, and I have been an NCFPD director for 18 years. Frankly, I’m tired of 4-1 votes where I am the lone vote when very liberal community service issues arise and DEI b... Full story

  • Think of the future of your children

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

In the past three and a half years we have seen an overwhelming attack on families, life, liberty, freedom and most of all on our children. There is no time to sit down but to be not only hearers of the word of God but doers. Aren’t you tired of the false accusations against the just and righteous ones defending what our Founding Fathers declared and established as the land of the free and home of the brave, “The United States of America, a Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and jus... Full story

  • Re: 'Firefighters union changes endorsements' [Village News, Letter, 10/17/24]

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

In response to the recent opinion piece regarding the Fallbrook Firefighters’ endorsement process for the 2024 election, we would like to clarify several points to ensure the community has accurate information and the chance to understand our perspective. In March 2024, Jeff Egkan and Ross Pike approached the Fallbrook Firefighters for an early endorsement, citing their campaign timelines. Although this early request was unexpected, we proceeded with our standard interview process. At that time, there were existing issues r... Full story

  • Starting with recent news and working backward

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

Trump, still spewing lies about a" rigged election" unless he wins, continues undermining our democracy; spreading lies about illegals voting, and continues to push the "Big Lie" about 2020. He lost. Fact. Trump has threatened to use the United States military against American citizens and use the Justice Department to prosecute his "enemies" (Nancy & Paul Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Liz Cheney, Mark Milley. etc., the list is long) if he is re-elected. Trump threatens to revoke the broadcast licenses of networks that criticize him;... Full story

  • Why Donald Trump should never be President again

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

I know that many of you may still be undecided as to who you should vote for as President in the upcoming election. But here are a few truthful facts you should consider before you finalize your decision: Donald Trump is a 78 year old mentally impaired demagogue who is only interested in promoting himself and other wealthy Americans. He has little real desire in elevating the interest of middle class Americans. As previous President his taxation policies included substantial reductions for the wealthy (including himself),... Full story

  • How to make a change on the planning group

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

Here is why I recommend voting for Mark Mervich for the Fallbrook Planning Group. Our planning group is good at being a custodian of the standards and ideals that have made our community the great place we all love. The current management of the group (including several people running for reelection) think they are doing a satisfactory job so no change is needed. Mark Mervich begs to differ! Currently the management has been less than specular at moving Fallbrook forward to the community it could be. Case in point, there... Full story

  • Local heroes

    Updated Oct 27, 2024

One of the greatest benefits of living in this area, one that we seldom think about, is our local fire department and the dedicated first responders who serve us without hesitation each and every day. As Director of North County Fire from 2018-2022, I got to know many of these ‘local heroes’ and I was also able to review the hundreds of customer service surveys turned in by you, the members of this community. Almost without exception, each of you who responded to these surveys spoke of our responders with the highest of pra... Full story

  • Firefighters union changes endorsements

    Updated Oct 17, 2024

The Village News readers who also follow local social media pages may be confused about endorsements for three of our local races on the November ballot. Ads placed show three candidates for North County Fire Protection District endorsed by the firefighter’s union, local 1622. And yet, in early August, the social media pages for this union show that three different candidates were endorsed: incumbents Ross Pike for District 1 and Jeff Egkan for District 4. In fact, the endorsements were unequivocal, stating that both incumben... Full story
