Around town, you will notice a sign for Tauna Rodarte: "Mom's get it done." With respect to the many years and hard work that Tauna put in raising her sweet kids, I would offer a bit of advice when responding to your ballot during this special election: keep in mind, Tauna's children do not attend Fallbrook High School. In fact, she was encouraged to run for the seat by the Democrat club in Fallbrook, who are working to politicize much of the seats that serve our small town. While I appreciate their hard work to ensure that... Full story
Congratulations to Julie Reeder and the Village News for an outstanding Sourcebook. It is so interesting to see what amazing services are available in our village. The historical articles are especially interesting. From the days of The Enterprise, it has always been a pleasure to receive a local weekly newspaper and be informed of happenings in our local area. Taking advantage of the recipe offer from Judith Bell was fun. It was a nice assortment, like going through grandma’s recipe drawer. The Holiday Cookbook will be e... Full story
Julie Reeder Publisher In recent weeks, there have been notable court rulings that deserve our attention, and some of the comprehensive accounts are featured in this edition. Amid the COVID pandemic, while mainstream news outlets engaged in mockery and name calling, our commitment led us to continued research and discussions with medical professionals. We stood firm against the derogatory labels and negative rhetoric aimed at those of us who approached the situation critically, rather than blindly following the narrative.... Full story
After a mental health break from the drama of this so-called “newspaper,” I have resubscribed. Even though I hate putting more money in the coffers of a right wing rag, I feel I must be proactive in following the shenanigans of my adversaries. I am well aware I am putting myself in the right wing lion's den by opening my First Amendment pie hole, but I don’t give a damn! This is an unfortunate newspaper situation in our community. Hopefully, one day soon Julie Reeder will retire. First, I want to thank the defendants of de... Full story
Tim O’Leary Special to the Village News Here’s a tale of four newspapers in decline. For me, it is the best of times and the worst of times. It is the best of times because today I am a columnist, a pinnacle of my craft. I have a publisher who appears to like what I write and, with scant editing, spends her precious ink on my ragged doggerel. It is the worst of times because her two weekly newspapers, which serve a vast area that stretches from Bonsall to Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Hemet and Anza, are struggling to survive. The... Full story
Assemblymember Marie Waldron 75th District Have you ever seen people out there throwing colorful discs in some of our local parks? If you’re not familiar with the sport, I encourage you to take a look at Disc Golf. I am hoping to name August as “Disc Golf Month” each year in California. Here’s why: The game is similar to golf, with a tee at the starting position and a “hole” consisting of a basket with hanging chains amid obstacles such as trees, hills or water hazards. But unlike golf, players use a disc similar but leaner t... Full story
Elizabeth Youngman-Westphal Special to The Village News And all of this time, you didn’t even know it. Sadly, you’ve probably even been guilty of it. Certainly, if you have children, you have had it done to you. In fact, it’s usually done to you by the ones you love the most. Often you will be sitting right next to them, at the dining room table, or in a movie, a concert, at the theatre, or a restaurant, often in the company of friend’s ‘n’ loved ones, in the car, but of course, the worst is behind the wheel. Call it a t... Full story
California has consistently had some of the lowest infant and maternal mortality rates in the United States. For example, in 2020, California had an infant mortality rate of 3.29 while the worst states – Mississippi and Arkansas – had 8.12 and 7.38 respectively. California’s maternal mortality rate was 10.1 while the worst states – again, Mississippi and Arkansas, had 43.0 and 43.5 respectively, both four times more than California’s! There are several reasons for this success. First, California has expanded access to prenat... Full story
Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District A few weeks ago, I talked about how the County of San Diego is pursuing a harm reduction program through the California Department of Public Health, including syringe services and safer smoking supplies. This potential program involves, in part, the distribution of free needles and various other drug paraphernalia. We believe this is not a solution to homelessness and are united in North County. Below is a letter we sent the State of California rejecting this program. I want to thank... Full story
Julie Reeder Publisher As TVUSD and several individual school districts up and down the state pass parental notification policies, many may wonder why? Why, all of a sudden, it seems like, are parents fighting against the school, the teachers, the counselors, and the state? Especially when they hear and see that Governor Newsom and Attorney General Bonta are pounding their chests and threatening school districts? Some school boards are trying to shore up parents’ ability to manage and nurture their own children. The state, th... Full story
In response to Marie Morris’s letter: I am certain that Lief Hansen is a wonderful person, with “good listening ears.” And he would probably make a great school board member . . . in 1955, the year Marty McFly visits in Back to the Future. But our students are preparing for a much different world than the one Mr. Hansen imagines can be created in the next few years, that world where children aren’t connected to every other part of the world with the touch of a smartphone screen. What we need for our school boards are trustee... Full story
Assemblymember Marie Waldron District 75 California should be doing more to help small businesses succeed. Last week a ceremony at the County Administration Building sponsored by the Cook Alliance and Institute for Justice celebrated Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operations (MEHKOs), established under Assembly Bill 626 in 2018, legislation I strongly supported. MEHKOs empower home cooks to attain self-sufficiency, turning neighborhoods throughout California into hotbeds of food innovation. MEHKOs provide supplemental income... Full story
As most readers are aware, representation for Area 1 for the Fallbrook High School board will soon be decided by a special election. Only mail-in ballots are accepted, and they must be postmarked by Sept. 19. Contrary to the remarks of Toni Smith of Aug. 24, there is only one reason for this costly special election. Back in February, the FUHS board selected a person to fill the Area 1 trustee vacancy due to the resignation of Courtney Hilborn. Kelly Hansen and her supporters were irate because the board chose the other,... Full story
With all of the major problems facing California, one would think that the governor and his merry band of legislators would be diligently passing legislation to solve them. Forget about homelessness, taxpayer exodus, open borders, a deficit budget, dying cities, no cash bail, smash and grab robberies, wildfires, lack of water storage, decaying infrastructure…(but don’t get me started). The full-time California legislature, which has a one-party supermajority introduced a record 2,632 bills in 2023. In 2022, 1,166 bills wer... Full story
By now, we’ve all heard the news that Donald Trump was indicted for a fourth time, this time on racketeering charges in Georgia for the criminal conspiracy he led to overturn the 2020 election. The indictments in Georgia and Washington, D.C. made clear that Trump knew he had lost the 2020 presidential election, but worked with his cronies on a variety of illegal schemes to change the election’s outcome so he could remain in power. When his plans to pressure state officials to overturn the will of voters and create fake ele... Full story
Steven Schindler Special to the Village News Have you ever been at a red light and the car next to you, with windows open, is blasting music where every other word is not only on George Carlin’s infamously banned seven dirty words list, but there are also words and mentions of violence that if uttered in public or private can get you canceled for life? All you can do is roll up your own windows and play the Beach Boys greatest hits CD a little bit louder. The movie “Barbie” just became the most successful Warner Bros. movie... Full story
Congrats. This is what homophobia has accomplished: The owner of a clothing shop in Cedar Glen was shot and killed Friday night, Aug. 18, after a man made several hateful comments about a rainbow flag displayed outside the store. The man tried to rip down the flag. The shop owner told him to stop and he shot her dead. Over a Pride flag. Congrats. This is the result of homophobic and transphobic rhetoric and gross misinformation – like that found in the pieces you irresponsibly put to print. I hope you both remember the n... Full story
There is a special vacancy election coming up for a Fallbrook Union High School District Governing Board, for Area One. The candidates are Lief Hansen and Tauna Rodarte. Ballots accepted will be mail-in only and need to be received by Sept. 19. “Book Banning Extremists” is the false and inaccurate label that Rodarte gives those opposing sexually explicit books which are at Fallbrook High School. She advertised her attitude in fliers she mailed. Lief Hansen is against sexually explicit books in Fallbrook schools, where aca... Full story
Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District San Diego County, known for its beauty and promise, is now marred by the grim reality of human trafficking. According to the FBI, San Diego is one of the country's 13 hotspots for human trafficking. A study by the University of San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene University estimates sex trafficking generates more than $810 M annually for San Diego's underground economy, with up to 8,000 victims per year, with victims averaging 16 years old. The same study found that 90% of high schools... Full story
We've grown accustomed to hearing a litany of lies from the legacy media – parroting DNC talking points like "trust the experts," "transitory inflation," and the piece de résistance of them all, "Russian Collusion!" When Joe and his choir of dishonest disciples aren't singing the praises of Bidenomics to an ear-piercing crescendo, they are lampooning President Trump and MAGA Republicans, painting them as "existential threats to our Democracy." One would think that Joe and his party faithful might reserve their incendiary re... Full story

We have the good fortune in Area 1 to have a Special Election coming up! Also, some other good news is that the Special Election will not be using any money for any school programs as a past Op Ed suggested without doing due diligence of fact checking. FUHSD received $1 million in unexpected money from the State for a refund from completing the construction of a building. It was found during the audit and the State paid it out. Fortunately, FUHSD also has plenty saved and set aside from certain earmarked funds that were... Full story
We have always enjoyed living in our small town of Fallbrook where there are locals who genuinely care about the customer. Antonio (Tony) Guzman, the owner of AGM General Construction, is one of these people. We recently used his company for remodeling our master bathroom shower/tub area. Tony walked us through what to expect as far as cost, time involved, etc., and emphasized the importance of getting us... Full story
Elizabeth Youngman-Westphal Special to the Village News It only stands to reason that when it comes to the hard stuff, like everyone else, I push it to the back of my mind.
