  • Re: 'In response to Terrell's and Zajic's letters' [Village News, Letter, 4/21/22]

    Updated May 5, 2022

Hello Shanika Benson, I'm a concerned citizen of Fallbrook, who had the pleasure of reading your article and I should start with saying, I believe I share your moral condemnation. Which is why I take issue with your article. I weep for the children associated with you and around you with the way you stamp on the names of honest hardworking Transgender people and especially athletes. You should feel ashamed. To be perfectly clear, I think your rhetoric is like grease to a computer mouse. Like sand to the hair. Garbage. Your... Full story

  • Re: Re: 'Is America in her final days?' [Village News, Terrell letter, 4/14/22]

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

Before answering his question, "What have Republicans done since 2016 to aid working-class Americans?", I'll note that fully one-half of Terrell's letter speaks approvingly of the abortion of babies, or as he calls it, "reproductive health care." I'll defer to a person such as Shanika Benson to set the record straight about that. Terrell is a believer in Big-Government, which is clear from any of his letters. He evidently thinks that working-class Americans are benefitted by more government "bills," as if yet more laws and... Full story

  • Say no to the Community Benefit District

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

Community volunteers (for various nonprofits) have created their own universe. The community benefit district is going to benefit only the coalition. None of the projects so far have benefited me and are an irritant to the community. While I respect their efforts, I do not respect the agenda of forcing the community to pay for their projects. This was a response to the beginning of FPUD /LAFCO creating a community benefit group and I found it very interesting that the people who live here have been ignored. I want to bring... Full story

  • Is America in her final days? – Part 3 – The reckoning

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

In your last letter, "JT," you blame the GOP for your party's continuing malfeasance using the same worn out and predictable tactics of plausible deniability with the sleight of hand machinations of a seasoned "flimflam man." It must be an embarrassing moment in history for you when most Americans blame the Democrat Party for the quagmire that may engulf us all. But I do hope your party leaders will campaign in the midterms on their obsession with supporting abortion, their insistence on sexualizing our kids in elementary sch... Full story

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

Boy, it's hard to know where to start! My letter was in defense of the manufacture and use of EVs and their associated batteries. In the second paragraph of your letter you stated, "they never debate any real issues," and then you ramble on for a dozen more paragraphs about things having nothing to do with the subject matter at hand. You state that I can't fact check some mining numbers because the information was removed. Then I wonder how Judy Willis got these numbers. Did they come from those 'reliable' news sources you... Full story

  • Inflation blues

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

Assemblymember Marie Waldron District 75 The rising cost of virtually everything is costing Californians dearly. March inflation surged to 8.5%, the largest increase in 40 years. This spike, driven largely by the cost of gasoline, made March the 10th straight month with inflation over 5%. So what’s the solution? One important step would be to suspend our 51 cent per gallon gas tax, the nation’s highest. Not only is this a direct tax on those with the least ability to pay, it drives up the cost of all goods shipped on our hig... Full story

  • Thank you, North County

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District Last week, my office hosted a State of the North County at the El Corazon Senior Center in Oceanside. I truly was amazed by the over 250 people who attended, many of whom make North County such a wonderful place to live and work. If you weren’t able to attend, I wanted to give a few of the highlights from the day. First, we had a very special guest on-hand, Bud Roberds. Bud is a World War II veteran who just celebrated his 102nd birthday! Bud was a music teacher at Fallbrook High School a... Full story

  • Truth is our hope

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

It was my privilege, along with 90 others in our community, to witness the film "Enemies Within The Church" produced by Trevor Louden and hosted by the Republican Women of California, Fallbrook. The film is an absolute eye opener. It stresses the fact that so many ministers are ignoring the true function of the church by failing to address the distressing activities of politicians, the absence of adhering to the laws of the bible and our responsibility to recognize the role we play as citizens of this great country. We and... Full story

  • Fallbrook Zoom meeting on crime

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

On April 19, there was a Zoom meeting sponsored by Supervisor Desmond's office regarding the issue of crime in Fallbrook. I had some questions about the proliferation of graffiti and what programs, if any, exist to address this community problem. I want to give two thumbs up to Lt. Aldo Hernandez of the San Diego Sheriff, Fallbrook Substation. He immediately addressed in real time my posted question with a Zoom post of his own and followed-up shortly after the meeting with an email communication to me. Thank you Lt.... Full story

  • It's the law!

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

There are some Americans who believe our common law was derived from the Ten Commandments. A brief analysis shows the implausibility of that view. I-IV. These deal with God and religion, which our secular government and its laws are forbidden to address. V. As far as I know, there are no laws now or previously that require you to honor your father and mother, nor should there be. VI-IX. The four no-no's: don’t murder, commit adultery, steal, or bear false witness. Basically it’s a negative way of stating the Golden Rule, i.e... Full story

  • The 95% has to take back our state from the 5%

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

Julie Reeder Publisher In the article, “Legislature failed to protect citizens, Sheriff says at Legislative Summit” beginning on the front page of this week’s Valley News, Sheriff Chad Bianco talking specifically about crime says, “The current legislative agenda is that absolutely no bill will be passed if it adds any type of punishment to any crime. The only bills that are being passed through public safety committees are bills that let people out of jail early or take away consequences for their criminal behavio...

  • Who's really looking out for water users in Fallbrook, Bonsall and Rainbow?

    Updated Apr 27, 2022

Dave Baxter and Hayden Hamilton Special to the Village News As you have probably heard, our two water agencies – the Fallbrook Public Utility District and the Rainbow Municipal Water District – are seeking to switch water suppliers in the wake of price increases from the San Diego County Water Authority that have averaged 8% per year over the past decade. Not surprisingly, this effort is opposed by the Water Authority. As your local water representatives, we are charged with providing you – the people of Fallbrook, Bonsa... Full story

  • Fentanyl crisis grows

    Updated Apr 23, 2022

Supervisor Jim Desmond 5th District Last month, I hosted a fentanyl policy roundtable that included updates from DEA Narcotics officials, Homeland Security Investigators, The U.S. Attorney’s office, California policymakers, and medical professionals about the impacts of fentanyl. The tragic stories of fentanyl overdoses are becoming all too common, with heartbreaking stories of kids dying because they bought prescription pills like Adderall or Xanax and they turned out to be laced with fentanyl. The meeting showed we all h... Full story

    Updated Apr 23, 2022

When the Left can't handle the truth about the reality of what is really happening in the world and has nothing but lies and half-truths, they punt their Holy Grail, baby killing abortion. We all know the real truth about this barbaric procedure. Do you ever notice how they never really debate any real issues? They never seem to have an original thought; they just pick a word or phrase and it goes out as a "code word" for the day with every single news reality show repeating the same mantra. They deflect from the truth. Mr.... Full story

  • Kicking It: The Magic Box Mystique

    Updated Apr 23, 2022

Elizabeth Youngman-Westphal Special to The Village News After my wedding ring, there is only one other sacred item in this household. It’s called “The Magic Box” and it belongs to the grandkids. Here is how it started. We moved to Fallbrook in 2014 to help my stepson’s family with new baby care. Our idea was we’d watch the lil’ guy once a week to ease the cost of babysitting. That was the idea. It worked out to be a lot more often and in exchange for our frequent devoted care we have been rewarded with priceless memories an... Full story

    Updated Apr 23, 2022

First, the end of the Warsaw Pact was not caused by some promise by an American politician. It died a natural death (around 1990), along with the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the glue that held all those participating states together. Soon thereafter, in 1992, Russia replaced the Warsaw Pact with the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which allied nine nations in a similar fashion to NATO, Russia being the leader. Russia's new strategic alignment, and solicitation of nation members automati... Full story

  • Who benefits from LAFCO approving Community Benefit District?

    Updated Apr 23, 2022

Can you state the 150 nonprofit organizations in Fallbrook that the Community Benefit District approved by LAFCO (to be administered by FPUD) is going to benefit? I counted maybe 37. I'm following FPUD closely. The joining of Rainbow and Fallbrook, and the withdrawal from San Diego County Water Authority, the water treatment plant, the Orange Grove Project fiasco. Nowhere did I become alert to any meeting recently discussing this other than back in 2018, and the subsequent FPUD and FCPG meetings. I looked at the special... Full story

  • People are tired of being bullied

    Updated Apr 23, 2022

Julie Reeder Publisher I believe people are tired of being bullied in politics, government at all levels, school boards, and media. I think this is why parents have been rising up too. And this is why some people are becoming bullies in response. I believe this is why there’s so much interest in Elon Musk making moves to buy Twitter. Free speech advocates are hopeful while others are afraid. Especially the managers, board members and fact checkers that may lose their jobs. The stockholders would make money, which is supposed... Full story

  • Dealing with the Fentanyl Crisis

    Updated Apr 23, 2022

Assemblymember Marie Waldron 75th District Last November the Centers for Disease Control reported over 100,000 overdose deaths in the United States, a new record. This represented a 30% increase over the previous year, a number driven by fentanyl and related substances; 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin, fentanyl is a deadly scourge. Fentanyl is often found in counterfeit pills that look like legitimate medication – one kilogram can contain 500,000 lethal doses. Since 2013, China has b... Full story

  • Who was Jesus?

    Updated Apr 21, 2022

Dr. Rick Koole LifePointe Church This month hundreds of millions of Christians around the world will celebrate Easter. It is a day set aside to commemorate a time two thousand years ago when Jesus, who was God’s son in human flesh, lived a life without sin, was crucified, buried, and after three days rose from the dead. One of the most important questions each of us must grapple with is “who exactly was Jesus?” Thousands of books have tackled this question but let me share a very brief look at the first three verses in the B... Full story

When censorship prevails, there exists but one side. The Deep State media still refuse to share two important aspects of the Ukrainian / Russian story, Ukraine’s connection to the New World Order and NATO’s roll in provoking Russia. • California's budget process

    Updated Apr 14, 2022

Assemblymember Marie Waldron District 75 Under California’s constitution, the Legislature must produce a balanced budget by June 15, and it has to be signed into law no later than June 30. Expenditures over the coming fiscal year are expected to be around $286 billion. Drafting a budget for a state larger than most countries is a monumental task. California’s constitution requires the Governor to introduce a budget by Jan. 10. That proposal is analyzed by the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office, which forwards its analy... Full story

    Updated Apr 14, 2022

The answer to the author’s rhetorical question is still a resounding no! But rather than deconstructing his denigration of the Democratic Party and many of its minority members, I offer this challenge: name one bill, proposed by Republicans since 2016, that would have significantly aided working class Americans. What are Republican state legislatures doing? Job No. 1 appears to be criminalizing abortion: the avowed intent is to “save the babies.” That sounds good; does eliminating legal abortion actually save babies? No, b... Full story
