After the first week of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club summer meet, Peter Miller shared the trainer lead with three wins. Miller, Richard Baltas and Doug O’Neill each had three wins during the races between July 17 and July 21. The Fallbrook Associated Swim Team's under-16 water polo team placed 19th among the 62 Invitational division squads at the Junior Olympics tournament, July 20-23, in Orange County. Brian Burrows won two medals at the Pan American Games. The 2007 Fallbrook High School graduate won the gold medal in the men's trap shooting event. Burrows and Rachel Tozier took the silver medal in the mixed trap shooting competition in which their American counterparts won by a single shot in the tiebreaking round. Bonsall High School has had athletics since the 2015-16 seasons but did not have a tennis team until this spring when the Legionnaires had enough players for boys tennis competition. Sean Backus has competed in off-road racing but did not compete in utility task vehicle competition prior to the June 22 race. The race was part of the San Diego County Fair, and the Fallbrook driver finished first among the UTV drivers in his first run. "Super proud," Backus said. "Super surprised."
