Mr. Odell H. “Smitty” Smith, 83, passed away on January 22, 2005. He was born on November 6, 1921, in Butler, TX. He resided in Fallbrook, CA, for 50 years.
Mr. Smith retired from the US Marine Corps, owned an air conditioning and refrigeration business for 15 years and Vista Pipes and Tobacco for eight years. He served in WWII with the 1st Raider Battalion in the South Pacific and in the Korean War, was a member of Marine Raiders Assn., VFW Post 1924 & American Legion Post 776 in Fallbrook and Christ The King Lutheran Church. He was also a past member of the Masonic Order in Texas and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife Helen Smith in 2000. He is survived by his daughters & son-in-law Kathy & Duane Saunders, Fallbrook, CA, and Linda Corn, Vista, CA; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 5 at 10 a.m., with military honors, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1924, 1175 Old Stage Rd., Fallbrook, CA. Officiating will be Rev. Phil Tukua, Christ The King Lutheran Church. Burial was held on January 28 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA. The family suggests memorial donations to VFW Post 1924, PO Box 194, Fallbrook, CA 92088. Berry-Bell & Hall Fallbrook Mortuary handled the arrangements.
