Picasso in Fallbrook

During the month of February, people won’t have to drive to the museum in San Diego to see works by Pablo Picasso, James McNeill Whistler, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro and Childe Hassam.

Prints by these famous artists will be on view, along with works by contemporary printmakers, in “Transferring Ink in the West” at the Art Center on Main & Alvarado in the heart of the village.

This two-part show focuses on prints — intaglio, relief, lithography, monoprints and mixed media. Part one is a juried exhibition featuring printmakers from across the Western US juried by Roxanne Sexauer, head of the Printmaking Discipline at Cal State Long Beach. Two of the 17 juried artists are Fallbrookians — N. Dixon Fish and Amber George. Both are involved in the new Fallbrook printmaking lab at the Art Studios on Alvarado, where workshops are offered.

Part two focuses on the history of printmaking with important works provided by Robert Sommers of Fallbrook’s Blue Heron Gallery. In addition to offering most of these works for sale, Blue Heron Gallery is also a sponsor of this exhibition.

The Art Center at Fallbrook’s commitment to education will be underscored not only by the juxtaposition of historic and contemporary prints but also with a display of plates and presses.

Imagine – right here in Fallbrook!
