Landscape designer wins four awards

A Fallbrook landscape designer was recognized with four awards at the recent 20th Anniversary Spring Home/Garden Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for the display garden created as part of the “Garden Masters” showcase.

“The Artist’s View” by Garden Masters Margie Rader of The Original Living Wreath in Fallbrook and Pat Hammer of Samia Rose Topiary in Encinitas was awarded Best of Show: Third Place, Perfection in Nomenclature, Best Specialty Garden and Best Topiary Feature. In this garden, succulents abounded from furnishings to artwork as the artist “paints” with plants. The “garden” entry took you inside the artist’s studio for insight into a fascinatingly creative point of view. Water-wise, drought-tolerant plants found their way into many intriguing creations, expanding our perception of the use of plants. Contributors to “The Artist’s View” included EuroAmerican Propagators and Bill Teague.

Each of the three designers created one of the 21 “Garden Masters” display gardens, showcasing the work of San Diego’s most original landscape designers and architects. Participants created a full garden just for the show, where theatrical lighting, sounds of trickling fountains and sheer creativity make for a spectacular collection totaling thousands of square feet inside Bing Crosby Hall. On March 3, the night before the Spring Home/Garden Show opened to the public for its three-day run, a stellar panel of landscape architects and horticultural professionals from throughout Southern California evaluated the designs of the show gardens.

Both the spring and fall Home/Garden Shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds are produced by Lawrence Bame of Westward Expos in San Diego.
