College-bound cancer survivors are encouraged to apply for scholarships through the American Cancer Society’s Young Cancer Survivor Scholarship program. Up to $5,000 will be awarded to each of 45-60 students to assist them with college tuition as well as nurture their leadership skills in the fight against cancer. Applicants must have received a cancer diagnosis at age 18 or younger and be age 25 or younger. They must be enrolled or plan to attend a two- or four-year accredited institution of higher education within the state and demonstrate financial need. The award stipulates that recipients volunteer with their local American Cancer Society office.
Applications are available by calling 1-800-ACS-2345 or visiting the Society Web site: http://www.cancer.org (click on “Youth Interests”). Completed applications must be received in the California division office by April 29.
