Tips for Dining Out

Hot Kung Pao Shrimp!

The Kung Pao Shrimp at Great China (in Major Market Center) is hot but good. A generous serving of large shrimp is mixed with mushrooms, sliced carrots, celery, onions and peppers. The peppers give it a hot and spicy taste, but I always pick them out because they are fiery hot!! The luncheon dish is $4.95 and is served with rice, egg soup, egg roll, fried won ton and hot tea.

Great Homemade Italian Bread!

At Scampi’s Simply Italian (1415 S. Mission Road in Fallbrook) their Italian white bread is homemade and is great with whipped garlic butter. After sampling the warm, crunchy crust and soft, flavorful center, I was so satisfied I was tempted to leave, but I stuck around anyway and was as pleased with the tasty dinner that followed!

Delicious Chicken Crepes

At Le Bistro, located in Fallbrook’s Jackson Square (119 North Main Street), the Chicken Crepes are marvelous! A perfectly delicate crepe is filled with tender chicken, cream and mushrooms and drenched in a delicious brandy sauce. Chef Robert, who studied the culinary arts in Germany, really knows how to make a crepe something special.

Olive Bread with Olive Oil Herb Dipping Sauce

A good starter combination at the Aquaterra restaurant at the Pala Mesa Resort (2001Old Highway 395) is the Olive Bread with Olive Oil Herb Dipping Sauce. The dipping sauce enhances the flavor of olives in the bread and is flavored with garlic and Italian parsley. It is a flavorful combination that starts any meal with a Mediterranean flair!

En Pico Frittata

The En Pico Café at 121 North Pico Avenue serves a marvelous breakfast dish called the En Pico Frittata. It is a wedge of egg layered with thin slices of potatoes, leeks and cheddar cheese, then garnished with sour cream and salsa. It is served with a twist of orange and fresh baked La Brea Bakery bread. A great way to start the day!
