FALLBROOK — A trial run of the upcoming July 4 Great Rubber Ducky Derby at the Grand Tradition ran afoul last week thanks to the resident swans. The love struck male swan, fearing possible rivals for his mate, chased duck race committee members and Fire Chief Dan Goldberg from the pond. The chief was on hand to determine the firehose power needed to propel the rubber ducks to the finish line. The angry swan forced the fireman and committee members to retreat to a backyard pool to water-test the ducks and determine how to construct the racecourse.
