Kathy Waite, the field hockey coach at Fallbrook High School, will be hosting a field hockey camp at the high school’s hockey field June 27-29.
The camp, which will be conducted alongside varsity tryouts, will be held from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. each day. An alumni game is also planned for one of the days during that three-day period.
The camp is intended for fifth-graders through incoming high school freshmen. “I’ll take anyone who comes in,” Waite said.
Tryouts for the junior varsity squad will be later in the year, and the camp allows incoming high school freshmen to learn what they need to know to try out for the squad. Younger students will learn basic field hockey skills. “The real focus is beginning,” Waite said.
Two of Waite’s former players who are now collegiate field hockey players will be coaches at the camp. Lisa Hauck now plays for Cal and Melody Demel plays for University of the Pacific. Heidi Kooyman, an assistant coach on the field hockey team, has a schedule conflict but will be able to coach one of those three days. Some of the varsity players may also assist the campers.
The cost for the camp is $80 per student.
