Macy Devenport wins Pole Bending at Lakeside junior rodeo

Macy Devenport, who lived in Bonsall from 1998 to 2003, won the Junior division Pole Bending event at the California Junior Rodeo Association competition August 13 at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds.

Devenport, who rode Fancy, had a time of 21.35 seconds to place ahead of the other 25 competitors. Carolann Scott finished second with a time of 21.59 seconds. Devenport’s sister Destri was sixth with a time of 22.12 seconds.

Devenport attended Bonsall Elementary School and Bonsall Charter School before the family moved to Temecula in 2003. Her father, Lynn, is now the trainer at Cloverdale Stables in Escondido, and Devenport will be in sixth grade at San Pasqual Elementary School when the academic year begins.

Destri Devenport and Jesse McNett, who attends Bonsall Charter School, placed second in the Ribbon Roping competition with a time of 11.34 seconds. Jennifer and Daniel Rosenberg, who board their horses in Bonsall, won the Ribbon Roping with a time of 9.55 seconds.

The two Devenport sisters tied for third in the Junior division Breakaway Roping competition. The Devenports each roped their calf in 3.75 seconds. Bonsall’s Marissa Graham was seventh in the Breakaway Roping event with a time of 7.37 seconds.

Marissa Graham was third in the Junior division Barrel Racing competition with a run of 16.55 seconds. Destri Devenport placed fifth in the Barrel Racing with a time of 16.71 seconds and Macy Devenport was tenth in the barrel race with a run of 17.27 seconds.

Kerry Popko was third in the Senior division Pole Bending with a time of 21.38 seconds. The Pole Bending run gave Popko concern about the health of her horse, Banjo, and she withdrew from the Barrel Racing competition. Jennifer Rosenberg was tenth in the Senior division Pole Bending competition with a time of 24.17 seconds and second in the Senior barrel race with a run of 16.31 seconds. Rosenberg was also second in the Senior division Goat Tying event with a time of 9.78 seconds.

McNett was fifth in the Tie-Down Roping event with a time of 35.83 seconds. Daniel Rosenberg won that event with a time of 13.87 seconds.

Destri Devenport placed fifth in the Junior division Steer Stopping competition with a time of 6.31 seconds and eighth in the Junior division Goat Tying event with a time of 13.37 seconds. Destri Devenport and McNett placed eighth in Team Roping with a time of 46.08 seconds; the Rosenberg siblings had a time of 13.83 seconds to place fourth.
