FHS varsity, JV cheerleaders ready for season

FALLBROOK — The 2005-2006 Fallbrook High School varsity and JV cheerleaders have had a busy summer. They began their training for the upcoming football season back in May with a stunt clinic held at the high school taught by Palomar College cheerleaders. The clinic helped the girls learn proper technique when putting up new and exciting stunts for this year’s games and pep rallies.

They next attended a two-day private camp on campus led by the National Cheerleaders Association. At the camp several of the girls received the title of “All American” cheerleaders: Kati Julian (varsity), Amanda Puetz (varsity), Kendra Jorde (varsity), Andrea Warren (varsity), Kelley Menden (varsity), Katie Kopitzke (JV) and Sarah Garcia (JV).

The final camp of the summer was a three-day camp held at Murrieta Valley High School and led by the Universal Cheerleaders Association. This camp was attended by five cheer squads from the area. Both JV and varsity did very well at the camp and each received the following team awards: the JV and varsity received the Spirit Stick all three days of camp, the Top Banana two days of the camp (given to squads that exemplify leadership and traditions throughout camp), and First Place/Superior for the Xtreme Routine, First Place/Superior for Overall Camp Champs and First Place/Superior on their final evaluation. The JV also received an Outstanding and a Superior trophy for their routines. From the two squads Kati Julian (varsity), Alyssa Williams (varsity), Lindy Pata (varsity) and Christiana Minga (JV) received the “All-Star” title for their individual jumps and cheers.

In addition to the camps and clinics, both squads practiced four days a week during the month of August and worked out independently in the weight room. They are coached by Amanda Thompson (varsity) and Chris Steffler (JV).
