Total Impact wins Windy Sands Handicap

In his first race in seven months, Total Impact won the Windy Sands Handicap at Del Mar September 5.

The San Luis Rey Downs Thoroughbred Training Center horse won the one-mile dirt race with a time of 1:35.62 and finished a neck ahead of second-place Anziyan Royalty.

“It was a very good comeback race,” said Jeff Ford, an assistant to trainer Laura de Seroux. “He came back better than expected.”

The Windy Sands Handicap was the 25th career race for Total Impact, who was foaled in Chile in August 1998. It was his sixth career win and his first since the Hollywood Gold Cup in July 2004.
