The Vista Panthers exhibited the abilities that place them in the top 10 teams of the county as they beat Fallbrook 35-0 on Friday night. The Fallbrook Warrior defense started out in great shape as they held the Panthers on three consecutive drives. They did not give up any points; however, the offense couldn’t capitalize and ended up with Holt throwing an interception that was returned for a Vista touchdown.
The defense continued to put out great effort but began to tire at the end of the second quarter and gave up another score to make the score Vista 14, Fallbrook 0 at the half. First half highlights included a 63-yard punt by Rob Taft and big tackles by Anthony Morrow, Nolan Hamblen and Zac Hampton.
In the third quarter the Warriors had two turnovers. The Warriors fumbled on the third snap and gave up the ball to the Panthers. The Warriors had a big defensive stand, but on their next drive Holt threw a pass that was deflected, resulting in another interception for a touchdown.
In the fourth quarter the Warrior defense was worn down, making it easier for the Panthers to make big plays, such as a 62-yard touchdown run by their quarterback. The final score was Vista 35, Fallbrook 0.
The game exhibited outstanding defense by the Panthers and a frustrated Warrior offense. Fallbrook suffered a disappointing loss, but to a very strong Vista team which certainly has playoff aspirations.
The Fallbrook Warriors have had a few days to rest up and prepare for their next big game this Friday at home against Oceanside. Oceanside is also ranked as a top 10 team and will prove to be a very worthy adversary. They have just come off a victory over league opponent Rancho Buena Vista last Friday. Their score was Oceanside 44, RBV 27. Our team will have two advantages in this game: we play at home and it is Homecoming this Friday. The town of Fallbrook will be present to cheer on the team and let them know that we are there for them. Go Warriors!
