Art Association demonstration and workshop

The Fallbrook Art Association’s next general meeting will feature award-winning pastel artist Karen Levi at 7 p.m., November 14, at the Hilltop Center, 331 E. Elder. Preceding the meeting, there will be an informal “Eat ’n Critique” session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Participants in the critique are encouraged to bring one or two “paintings in progress” plus a snack or box dinner to eat during the session.

Refreshments will be served following the meeting. The meeting and critique session are open to the public at no charge. Membership applications are available at all meetings. For more information about membership, please contact Shirley Williams at (760) 451-8664.

Karen Levi began her painting career as an oil painter, but several years ago she picked up pastels and has never looked back! Describing her preference for pastels, she says, “I especially love the brilliance and the immediacy of the pastel medium and I enjoy the fact that working with pastels is part drawing and part painting.” She embraces the versatility of the medium and frequently experiments with mixed media techniques. Levi’s varied and distinguished background includes earning a BFA in painting and drawing from the Dayton Art Institute. Her career as a commercial artist included several years as an illustrator for NASA. She continued her studies at the Art Students League of New York and with such notables as Ben Konis, Harley Brown, Daniel Greene and Sally Strand.

In addition to demonstrating at the meeting, Levi will hold a workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 19 at the Public Utilities Department Building, 900 E. Mission. For cost and information about the workshop, contact Marlene Sheridan at [email protected].
