Prop. 76 would cut school funding

As a local teacher and longtime Fallbrook resident, I am alarmed by the Governor’s campaign for Proposition 76 on the Nov. 8 special election ballot. At a time when California already spends about $1,000 below the national average per pupil, Prop. 76 would cut school funding by over $4 billion every year, or about $600 per student. It will invalidate Prop. 98, the minimum school funding guarantee for public education. Without Prop. 98 our schools will have more overcrowded classrooms, teacher layoffs and fewer textbooks and classroom supplies.
