Capt. Loren O. "Dutch" Pfautz

Capt. Loren O. “Dutch” Pfautz, born in Gary, IN, in January of 1930, ran away from home at 13 to join the circus, worked as a cowboy on ranches in Texas and Wyoming and, eventually, wrote home after four years only to get permission to join the Marines at 17 years old.

He received a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts in five combat tours, wounded first at the Chosin Reservoir, one of the deadliest battles in Marine Corps history.
